I have a FA 90T, the older one, that needs bearings ( I think). Is there a tutorial somewhere on here that can walk me thru the process? I've looked and so far can't find one.

Thanks

Beav, the sleeve you see over the spraybar is the LS "needle" if too far in as Jim said it makes the HS needle ineffective. To eliminate one variable back the LS needle out about 1/2 turn, set the HS needle at full peak, then set the LS needle.

Oh hey! anyone one got one of them old ''Cigar'' Mufflers that'll fit my 180 they don't need?
Try Phi'ls Hobby Shop or Nubsdoesparts on fleabay. I saw that phil's had a 12mm cigar muffler listed last week when I bought his last two 10mm and an 11mm cigar muffler along with some steel right angle manifolds. Nubs seems to always have access to some ''off the wall'' and discontinued parts, though he doesn't list everything he has so, a member message is usually necessary to get the ball rolling.

I only have one Saito myself, the FA90R3 radial. I have been very impressed by it, good quality and very easy to start. It resides in this airplane:

Hi

I am new here , and it will be my first post in this form .

I am almost finsihed my TopFlite Eder 40 . The engine thats going in it is a Saito 56 . It will be inverted . The nipple that is on the crank case on the bottom . This is a breather tube right . What effects will I have on this breather tube if the engine is inverted . Will it still function properly ?

Thanks for looking in

Yes, it is the CC vent. Just put some fuel tubing on it and run it out of the bottom of the cowl or wherever, as long as it is below the motor. The action of the piston's motion virtualy pumps the waste out of it so you could run it out just about anywhere really.

Incidentally, this is also where you introduce your after run oil into the engine...something I had been a bit lax on this past year and has cost me dearly in performance and time....

.56 runs great inverted, too.

Hello All
I just purchased a vintage Saito FA-65. Does anyone have information ass to where I can get a hold of a copy of an owners manual? Or perhaps someone here has one. I was able to pickup one for an FA-80 last month. Thanks for your help.

I've got a question on a Saito 82. It's going into a H9 1/5 Scale Cub. The muffler manifold (12mm, I think) is not long enough to let the muffler clear the cowl.

Can anyone suggest a lolnger manifold? Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong spot on the H9 website..

Thanks,

Bob

This is the straight pipe that came on the Saitos from 2001 - 2004

This is the 30 degree angle pipe that used the straight cigar shaped muffler in the 90's

This is the 15 degree that should have come on the 82

Flew my Saito 100 powered edge again today. Still having high winds every time I fly Anyway, I'm still nose heavy and short on power with 15% fuel. I've decided to remove the some of the exhaust system in hopes of getting 2 birds at once. I've got a rcspecialties 90deg into a 45deg header connected to a stock muffler.

I'm thinking of using the stock 15deg header off the 90 straight out of the cowl. But I read around and some state the motor won't run well without some back pressure. Is this true, and if so will the 90 and header be enough? Also I need tank pressure, think I can just tap the 90deg for a pressure fitting? Not sure on that either since there won't be much restriction.

Also I'm thinking of adding a stack to the carb, but can't find which one fits the 100.

Advise?
Thanks
Cory

A Saito 100 runs great with no muffler at all.

If you take the muffler and pipes off, you will need to readjust the needle valve.

Great, thanks. What do you think about tank pressure? Think taping the round face of the rcspecialties 90 would be okay? Kinda worried it's too hot there.

I'd posted pics before of similar setup, here is a couple of mine. Surely I'm loosing some power with all this plumbing.

Also on the second picture you can see the brass tubing to the right, this is the end of the crankcase vent. Is this too much line, or is it okay.

Kinda hate to change this since it is so quite and there is barely a bit of oil on the belly after a couple flights.

I guess I'll play musical exhaust parts and see if it's worth hacking the cowl to run only the 45deg header straight off the head.

Thanks
Cory

SAI50GK93 should fit all from 56-125. It only says D-K,EE in the listing but I'm using the same one on a 62,91,100 and a 125.

The carb intake stack does not come on the 100, 115, & 125 Saito Golden Knight engines from the factory.

The stack does not seem to work well on the 125 (too small) but is great on all the other engines.

Clytle,

Would something like this work for you. This is a special 90 we have that can be extended with a piece of header coupling. This mounted on a 100.

In one of my industrious, projectitus moods I made a couple of velocity stacks to work on the 1.25. Its pretty easy, not pretty looking but cleans up the back spray mess. Just take one of the stock stacks and remove the aluminum part take a piece of K&S tubing sightly larger diamter than the 1.25 venturi and silver solder it into the hole in the steel velocity stack clip. I split a larger diameter K&S and squeezed it into the. I left out one step, you need to enlarge the velocity stacks hole so the K&S tube will end up slightly larger than the venturi

I think I'm going to order the velocity stack today, been reading around that it will reduce power a bit. How much is a bit?

Frets 24, thanks for the part number.

Jim, I don't think that will help me much. The problem is turning it once the cowl is on, so it would probably easier to screw the hear into the 90 once the cowl is on. Probably make a short straight aluminum header to use instead of the steel if it works out well. Any idea if I'll get enough back pressure if I tap the face of your 90?

Thanks
Cory

Cory, the velocity stack will not reduce the power on the 1.00, only on the 1.25, the 1.50 has its very own velocity stack that it shares with the 1.80. If someone claimed to have lost poweer using the velocity stack on the 1.00 it is because they didn't lean the engine to compensate for the blow back fuel being saved and going into the engine instead of just blowing away in the wind.

Cory, the velocity stack will not reduce the power on the 1.00, only on the 1.25, ......
.....And then only about 250-300 RPM on the 125, all other things being equal.

Thanks for the tip and pics on the 125 stack mod, Hobbsy. Copy of your prototype is now on my list of projects for the week.

Be careful drilling out the hole in the steel part of the velocity stack, it can take nasty chunks out of your finger fast if it comes loose from whatever you clamp it onto.
