I have a moki 1.8 in a midwest cap 232, 80". The Cap was built by Mike Ramsey and on the cover of flying models in 97.....I purchased it from Mike 3 years ago.
The fuel tank is 24 oz, and I'm using FAI fuel with a cline regulator and an OS 8 plug with an 18 x 8 carbon fiber prop.........and pitts muffler
the motor runs fine on the ground...smooth idle, really smooth for this thing and transition is great and top end is right on spec for motor / prop accoring to article by clarence lee.
just rebuit the cline regulator per thread on RCU........no heat problems.....and NO lean runs
problem is in a humpty bump, large loop, hanner head....it either coughs or dies........
now being this motor is supplied by a pressured system......I wouldn't have believed this could happen..............first things first..............checked fuel by changing the jug.....easiest........checked the clunk.........no problem there...........the hole on the cline to equalize the bladder is open....fuel lines are OK.......
If I fly real easy....rolls, knife edge, small loops, and 4 point rolls it taxis back to the pitts.....but turn inverted and do an immelman and look out...........
I'm beginning to think I'm missing something real simple.....
any suggestions are appreciated

sorry to hear you have simular problems
haven't flown the plane since then............have a gut feeling that I have it too sensitive..........meaning that if there is any hic cup in fuel supply...........flame out...........
going to go richer, and I feel I'm already running rich with a wonder smoke trail.......looks like a smoke system
I also forgot to mention that I have large fuel tubing................so plenty of fuel going to cline
I'll let you know if somethning happens

Hey Bob,
Where is your fuel tank located, is it in the stock position right behind the firewall or have you moved it back towards the CG and use the regulator? I have my Moki 1.8 in two planes now with the tank mounted as close to the engine as possible and never a problem with fuel draw or flame-outs. Your 24 Oz. tank sounds really large to me as I use an 18 Oz. tank and get a flight that is plenty for me (ten minutes or so with plenty left of several go-arounds). I use a BCM Pitts muffler with no restrictions in the outlets, 5% Omega fuel, an OS-F plug and have never had to land with a dead enginel [8D][8D]........RJ

Make sure that the hole in the Cline is not getting blasted by air. This air blast from flying can richen the Cline and make your engine run rich. May not be the problem but worth checking. The Cline is the same exact device used by gassers for the metering device and has this problem of air hitting it. You could try making sure the hole is not getting hit with direct air by shielding it. Make sure it's open to air but shielded from air blast. Mine richens in knife edge right to left but is fine in knife edge left to right. I haven't tried shielding mine yet. I'll let you know when I try it.

wow.........
going to fly the plane tomorrow.........checked everything including the clunk.....tank is in stock position ........tubing is fine, and we should be good to go.
I get safely about 9 minute with the 24 oz tank......this moki consumes about 2 oz per minute wide oped, but with management I get safely 9 minuts with about 6 oz left...........maybe I'm too rich......this would be the second time this has been mentioned.....so tomorrow I'll see
many thanks for the input.....will advise if something developes constructively
the hole for pressure equalization is not subject to prop wask or air flow, and not blocked

Is your Moki running ok now by chance? What fuel is everyone using in the Moki 1.8's . I'm wondering if I'm just running the wrong fuel in this thing. Is FAI fuel the way to go on Moki's ? I was reading on DPM's website that their engines were modified to run nitro, unlike the original design for no nitro.

If I find anything, I'll forward along as well
