Club Laser?

RE: Club Laser?
can't believe my luck. i was all set to run both my 80 and 200V this past weekend, and then came down with the flu of all things..........oh but today i feel 100% better...........this weekend it will happen though, and right now i have K&B1L plugs installed in both engines for test stand running, but i will be switching to the OS F plugs, so i'll take some reading (mostly at idle) and report to which works the best.
i'll be using Cool Power 10% as it's all synthetic.

RE: Club Laser?
I found a home for my LASER .70, it ain't purty but I enjoy flying this plane, I have flown the Kombat 60 with an Enya .46 MKII Saito .80, Saito 1.00, Fox .60 and .74 both as glow and Diesel and now the LASER. It turns a Graupner 12x7 at 10,300 on WildCat 5% Premium/16% lube that is 80/20 syn castor. A GloDevil 4c Special is the plug. This is an older LASER with clamps holding the carb and muffler instead of grub screws.

Thank you for your answers, I found out when looking more close to what I've done to the engine that I was way off with the valves, instead of .002" - .004" I had about .015".
Have put an OS F plug in and moved the tank 3" forward, hopefully I will assembly to night and crank it later tonight.

No,it's the other way round. The older Lasers had the grub screws. The newer ones have the clamps.

RE: Club Laser?
I can only say, holy crap what an engine to run smooth . I don´t know if it was the valve setting or the change to a F plug but the engine ran like a train, it didn´t matter what i did with the plane in the air, the engine just went on like a dream with no fuzz what so ever and that is in a 3D profile plane that can do a spin in insane speeds. Now I´m just waiting on my tachometer so I can get som rpm readings. Laser is an engine to salute.

RE: Club Laser?
Well I finally got my tacho readings today and with an 13x5 Masterairscrew, 10% Cool Power with 17% oil I got about 10300 rpm, now I'm awaiting my APC 14x4W and see if it's any difference that is worth the extra money for the prop.

No 360 owners out there?
What about Laser 180 owners then, on yet another project I have Iam considering replacing a Moki 1.8 in my Brian Taylor 1/5 Spitfire with a Laser 180. Question I have is what is the overall hight of the 180 from center of crank to top of rockers??? need to fit this within the cowl if its going to work...

RE: Club Laser?
Marty, I have a Laser 180 in a Nieuport Triplane (page 4 of this forum). I can't get to the engine to measure at this time, we're moving, but it's approximately 5". The engine is perfect for the 17 lb triplane but it won't be as strong as your Moki 180.

RE: Club Laser?
I picked up a Laser from Canada off ebay. I believe it is an early 62. Bore measures about 0.94". It was sold as having no compression, and, when received, it didn't. I put a prop on, flipped it and got nothing.
I pulled the head, shot carb cleaner in the valve seats, pulled the cylinder and looked at the liner. It shows signs of use, and when I hold it up to the light just right I can see a shadow of wear up at the top where the piston changes direction. I put it back together; it seemed the ring had very little tension. It just slipped up into the liner without a lot of squeezing.
After some 10w-30 oil in the cylinder I flipped it again. It now has compression, but it doesn't seem like a lot.
I'm sure Frank Bowman can make a ring. I'm wondering about the liner and if anyone knows whether Laser can supply parts for this old motor. It has the initials for a serial number.
Has anyone ever taken one completely apart? I don't see how the cams are timed. I posted on the British forum and got a reply that there is a mark on the crank side where the sdmall gear gets driven. I don't want to take it down and lose the timing. But it should come apart. It's dirty inside and needs a good clean.

RE: Club Laser?
Hi all, I finally got my Laser 120 run in and flight tested in my Astra Hog...By far the best 4 stroke I have owned, Throttles and sounds brilliant.
If you want to see it during part of the running in period type in LASER120 into youtube. Hopefully I will get some in flight video posted soon aswell.

RE: Club Laser?
I have 2 x Laser 100's.
One is earmarked for a VQ P40. Not sure about the other.
I also have an unbuilt Blackhorse .60 sized T-18 Trojan, but a Laser 100 may be a little over the top for this model.

RE: Club Laser?
Hi,
I'll join! I'm the owner of a Laser 150 since 2003.
It had been on 25% Funkey Cap232 but had a mid air on the 3rd flight. The engine survived without a scratch but the plane did not (RIP)....
I'm planning to put it on a WM Funworld 3D.

Do you guys think its enough power for Hover and pull out? It should weigh just under 10 lbs.
Here's a pic of my engine:

RE: Club Laser?
Hi there did you get in touch with laser for parts I just bought a laser 150 V twin and the carb needles got bent in the post it is an old engine with the same carbs as yours I fear that it has damaged where the needle fits into and maybe the eye of the carb is damaged the rest seems fine just needs a good clean out.

RE: Club Laser?
Hello guys,
Could somebody tell me what the distance between propeller plate and cylinder's front for the:
- 160V
- 200V
I looking if those engines would fit the Ziroli B-25 101" engines cowl...
Thanks for your help,
Marc

RE: Club Laser?
How do I start this thing?
My new 200V arrived yesterday and I dont see starting instructions that mention how many glow lighters I need to start. Can I start it on one lighter on one cylinder or do I need both cylinders lit to start?
It looks like an onboard glow system that lights up both cylinders automatically would be needed. Any comments?

RE: Club Laser?
Hello; I have a Laser 100 which I have had mounted in a BUSA Taube that I have hung in the garage rafters for a few years. One of the fellows at the feild asked about it, so I brought it down to get it ready for flight. The throttle barrel was frozenclosed, so I took it off and soaked it in fuel for a day or so, that freed the carb up, so I pumped some air tool oil into it and worked it all around. I put everything back together and spun it over.
The engine would breifly start, but wouldn't pick up fuel, so it would run on it's prime then quit. I would prime it by holding my finger over the caqrb throat while turning it over by hand. I did this 6 or 7 times and it wouldn't pick up fuel, so I'm thinking that the low spwwd setting needs changing. The HS nedle was at 5 turns and the LS needle was at4 1/2. I tried leaning the LS, which didn';t seem to help at all, so I richened up the LS, which also didn't seem to change anything.
What's next?
