Guys,

how's the Laser 75 performance wise ?

Will it fly a BlackHorse P-36A Hawk weighing arround 8lb's ????
is this a new .75?

can only tell you about the .80 as that is what i have in this plane.
did some breakin with a 13x8 and was more than impressed by the power...........turned the 13x8 at 9,700rpm on a 60* day. i believe the 75. was replaced by the .80. power shouldn't be too much different. the Nieuport wieghs just under 8 lbs. the Nieuport will probably need to be flown at 1/4 throttle.

as a comparison, my OS 91 SurpassII only turned the same prop at 9,500rpm's if that gives you any idea of the Laser's power.

Yes it should. A Laser 70 flies the Proctor Jenny which weighs 11 to 13 lbs.

12x8 prop unless you're at a high elevation, above 3,000 or 4,000 ft. then I'd use a 13x6. OS F works good.

So the APC 12x8 will spin at least at 9.700 rpm, right ?

This produces : 6,7lb static thrust ,so it won't be enough...

The P-36 A advertised weight is arround 8lb.

Kostas,
you can't just get a simple answer to this........you have to do like the rest of us and try different props.
i thought you were asking about the Laser .75 were you not?
go to this link and READ, and hopefully you may get some answers to your questions.

Summerwind,

yes i was asking about the 75 or the 80.

I haven't bought yet any Laser engine so i must choose between them wisely.
I must be sure i'll get an engine that will provide the muscle to fly my P-36A ,
and then spend all that money.

7-8lbs (3.5kilos) and 70" span won't even bother this engine........don't be suprised if you are flying at less than half throttle.

Hi Summerwind!

Thanks for the pictures!

The following text is extract from the Laser engines web site:"The tank should be as near the engine as possible and on the centreline of the carburettor. Position is very important if the model is highly aerobatic."

Can you please tell me how this should be interpreted? I am mounting a Laser 240 on a Great Planes yak 54 which is highly aerobatic. Neverthleless, is the the tank position (i.e. the distance from the carbs) more critical with Laser 240 than with some other glow engines, say O.S. 160? So any idea of the max. distance between the tank and the carbs that won't yet cause problems on the up-lines?

thank you,

artto

I tried selling my NIB 200V lately but nobody is buying. I might as well play with it on the test stand.

I could probably sell it used with a few tanks of fuel run through it for the same price someone is willing to pay for it NIB. Which is 10 cents on the dollar.

It looks like you're "getting the hang of" the whole "building models thing"........ The Nieuport is beautiful[sm=thumbup.gif]

Just wondering if anyone knows about the 150 v twin. I have one but the backplate bolts are missing and was told that the older engines had different bolt threads than the new 160. I was also wondering how you work out how much thrust the engine produces with a given prop size and rpm please help can't wait to run this engine. I also have a new in box laser 90 the later one with the modified head with a bigger inlet valve but having trouble finding a plane that is worthy of these engines. And has anyone tried laser's new fuel with 5% nitro and the Sical aditive.

Default RE: Club Laser?

G'day

I have three Laser engines - a 70, a 100 and a 150. The 70 is currently flying a Sig Kadet Senior trainer and it does the job really well. The 100 is in a Black Horse Super Decathlon and it also runs extremely well and completely overpowers the Decathlon. The 150 is in a new quarter scale Space Walker. It has been run but it is yet to fly.

I have been running the 70 and 100 on my standard home mixed fuel which is 10% nitro, 5% castor, 15% Klotz 200 synthetic and 70% methanol but today I flew the Kadet and its 70 with modified FAI fuel. This contains 5% castor, 15% synthetic and 80% methanol. The weather here today was cold and damp with the temp about 10 degrees Celsius and as a result the 70 was slightly more difficult to start than usual but start it did and it flew perfectly. It did not idle quite as smoothly as it does with some nitro but this did not make it unreliable.

The 150 is still being run in. I have been running it on the modified FAI fuel too and it too seems happy on it. Adding a small amount of nitro (5%) would probably make it idle better, start a little better in the cold and be slightly more powerful.
