Yup

Congrats Jon! And good luck let's hope you will have at least 50 flights before overhaul this time!

I also have mine in one piece too. I got it back from BJ's engine repair. This is a picture of the bearings.

I haven't fired up mine yet, but since there's so many good info on this engine here but with so many pages it's hard to get @ it. Is there a moderator that could jump in & make a page reference at the beginning ?
I was looking for the oiling procedure & still looking...
Thanks V.

Right guys, another 400 leaving my shop towards a hopefully happy customer.

The engine has had about 10 haurs runtime and like I said before the bearings went. with new bearings, everything sealed with Loctite Blue (also carb and inlets) and the MKII Cam followers this engine is giving me 7.550 rpm with the APC 20x8

Thats the best turning 400 I have had up to date.

Well my engine is also back together and ran today puffing out plumes of smoke as it burnt off all the oil I put in it. I eventually got 7000rpm out of the menz 20x8 but right now the valve clearances are a mess so that should return to its usual 7200 when I fix them. Anyway with thr new master rod bearing the nasty clattering sound has gone so I wonder if that bearing was rubbish from day one. Time will tell I suppose but for now at least its working. I may have a go at flying it tomorrow

As long as you fellas are giving numbers, I'll post mine from the repair facility.

Fuel - 15% nitro

Zinger 20 X 10 prop - idle:1800 rpm (McDaniel glow driver)
peak: 6800 rpm

Low speed needle valve - .024" above flush
High speed needle valve - 3 1/4 turns out

Cylinder head temp. right after shutdown - 175 to 200 degrees

Hi Rev

These static thrust calculators seem to be giving confusing results..have you measured the static thrust of an APC 20x8 prop on a fish scale? Just to have a real world comparison..

Static thrust calculators are only relevant for comparing relative performance between engines or when checking power gains from performance modifications/fuel formulations.

That being said, my tests on Saito engines running glow ignition & 15% Cool Power fuel fir baseline oower output have been very close to factory HP specs using that particular calculator.

I then use the RPM output to gage power gains for CDI conversions, increased compression ratios, induction improvements & nitro content.

It is a valid tool for those purposes, but care must be Aiken to insure consistent environmental conditions that can skew results.

I always try to do my comparative tests on the same day when conditions are consistent throughout the test period.

A calm, cool day when temperature remains consistent is best for relevant results.

Hi SrTele

I guess you are right. What I was referring to can be explained by a quick and simple example:
I tested with a fish scale the static thrust of a Menz 19x8 on my GP 25% Yak: temp 77 deg Fah 7600 rpm static thrust 15,7lbs. The calculator says 20,78 lbs with the same prop / temp / rpm.

So the actual measured static thrust is, in this particular example, about 75% of the estimated figure given by the calculator..

Hi everbody, I,ve not been on here for a while . I finally flew my ESM Corsair for the first time since I made the baffle yesterday. I've been changing many things since my last fly. I have gone back to 10% nitro ( was 20%)..Although there has never been any temperature issues ..The baffle just gives a bit more peace of mind..I have now decided that a Xaor 21x8 ( around 6800rpm) is the very best for my setup. ..so how does this 30 pound monster fly now ? I am sooo happy !! It flys with authority ,with a very good turn of speed . It was running a little rich ..so hope to get a little more .
All I need to do next time is get a video .. I am so happy now . I had thought I might have to put a horrible 2 stroker in it . It sounds the bussiness now ! The ESM corsair is so realistic and way smooth to fly. YES the ASP radial can power an 85" 14.5 kg plane...I cant wait to get out again - Kym

Kym, that is fantastic news! Congratulations!

Oh yes PLEASE, get a nice long video of your FS-400 powered ESM Corsair posted!

Great news indeed! My 400 ran ok on the 21x8 but, due to its many issues, didn't really go for it in the air. Your rpm is better than mine and is very close to the magic 7000 that the engine likes to be around. But tom is right, we need a looooong video to keep us entertained

Also, my engine looks like it might get a few flights on Tuesday evening if the weather is ok. we will see

Does anyone know the steps to go through to embed a video? When you click on "Insert Video" it just places the shortcut in the text.

The author of the vid has to click on "allow embedding" or options to that effect.

This option exists for both YouTube and Vimeo. Dunno about other sites, but it certainly works for those two.

Hope this helps...

Aerofinn, yep, SrTelemaster is right. Its a mere comparison. I also tend to go for 75% of the values shown.

I guess the site has to allow video embedding as well.

Here's a test - this posted up fine on RCG:
