Default What engine???

I am about to start a SIG Ultimate fun Fly. I "want" an ENYA .50 ring because I like ENYA and it only weighs 15.2oz, however it is about $175. A OS FX .46 is $100 from Omni models. I want to keep the weight down as much as I can as lighter flys better.

As an FYI my ENYA .45 CX turns a APC 12x4 at 12,500 and a MECOA .46 turns it at 12,000.

Any body own a ENYA .50 ring? How strong?

Francis

Francis, I know we talked on the phone the other night, Is my .50 CXTN the same as your .45CX, I could run a Graupner 12x5 on it if you need some numbers.

Here it is, it weighs 16.7oz with stock muffler and 18.7oz with the MDS .58 baffled muffler I use on it.

It's got plenty of wing area for the weight. Thats the whole idea of a profile.

I flew mine with an OS 61FX. This was YEARS ago before the Tower .75 and lighter engines came around. At the time, it was either a .60 or you had to jump to the next class-- the .90 engines. I knew a .90 was too big.

Mine flew fine with the 61FX. Were I to build the same kit today, I'd probably use a TH .75. It's lighter than a 61FX and lots more power.

I realize your flying a a much lower elevation than me, so your standard .46--.50 engine will work. Why not try the OS 55AX? Or the Magnum 52XLS? The OS is expensive. I wouldn't buy it for that reason. They run decent, but overpriced for me. The Magnum is usually a good deal. I have the .46XLS and really like it. OS quality and running characteristics with a good price tag.

There is also the option of the Evolution .52 if considering your choices. It has a noticeable amount of more power over the ringed .50SX. Parts are much cheaper.

I don't think you can go wrong with an Enya as far as quality. Another option, if you wanted to go large, would be the gold head Twister .61 from K&B. Less weight than other brands, supposed to have good power, and on sale for $100.00.

alot of 2 strokes are too light , you need the weight up front especially on a short nose
airplane, thats why alot of people go to gas engines. if it balances out with a light
engine , fine. lighter does fly better , but the bird has to balance.

I am concerned about balance but the SIG kits I have built ended up balancing where thay should. Goldberg kits are tail heavy so from the beginning of the build I try to move things forward to compensate. I did that on a SIG 4*40 and had to add a bit of lead to the tail .
