Im an idoit when it comes to this stuff but, I got a few old engines from my grandpa that used to fly years ago, and their is 3 OS 40's but only 1 has a muffler and it is not like the mufflers today they are a clamp style. Their is no bolts that go through the engine but a metal bracket goes around it??? Any one seen thease before and is their anyway to still find one new or used dont care as long as it works. Ive tested the motors with out the muffler and they worked good so I really would like to find atleast 1 muffler.
Any help would be appreciated
Sry for lack of info but thats all I know
Thanks
Jason

JASON your quck way out is go the the local HS get a 4/40 threaded rod bend it in a U around the cylinder and use a couple of nuts and washers to secure it, you have made minnie version of a muffler clamp ala full size auto type you may need to make a metal plate with 2 holes to go over the muffler I have done this on several engines works well martin

The OS strap on mufflers came in three sizes - #702 for the MAX .15, .20 and .25, #703 for the MAX-S .30, MAX-S .35 and MAX-H .40, and #704 for the MAX-H .60 and MAX-H .80. The 702 and 703 mufflers and straps are still very easy to buy and commonly come up on auction sites, but the 704 seems to be a bit harder to get hold of.

Jason, tower hobbies sells some bisson strap-on sport mufflers that will work just fine on your engines.

The original mufflers are getting harder to find, The #704 is really hard to get.

When the thing goes into a plane (giant Flite Streak) I'll probably end up giving up and getting Scott Riese to build me a custom one.

I found one last year at a swap meet. The seller was busy on his cell phone and I held up the muffler and a five dollar bill. He nodded yes, so I left with a bargain.
The last one I saw on the auction site went for $52 and change!
I haven't given up, but I bought one of these old Dubro jobs which is better than nothing. It has a spring inside and you can adjust the tension to alter back pressure and noise level.

Hello; Not a highjack, but I have been looking for a muffler for my old OS90 four stroke, for abour three years. I know two other fellows that want to find a muffler for their old FS 120 OS engines. If the strap is all that's missing, I would likely make one out of the cutter on the roll of aluminum wrap, or some such scrap plated metal strap that would usually get thrown out.

The GREAT UNIVERSAL MUFFLER. FITS EVER ENGINE IN THE WORLD... REGARDLESS OF SIZE!
(regardless of performance a well one thinks[sm=50_50.gif]?)
Also love the note: "Split plastic covering to remover muffler" on the package.
Obviously, Dubro must have thought that those taken in by the "Universal muffler" spin would be of such limited mental capasity, they deemed it necessary to include the instructions for opening the packet!

Not distracting from your purchase Dave... just laughing about the old days.
