Congratulations on the smoking deal. I am now just past two weeks without a smoke. Every day is a new day. I am hoping the money I save will help finance my return to "The Planes"[sm=49_49.gif]

I'm starting to get the Top Gun itch. There will be some WACO's in attendance, and I know that Mike Barbee is bringing a new one to the event, and Bob Gonzalez will be there too.

I finished up building a new 30" X 96" (building/layout) table this weekend. Best I can measure using 3/16 X 2 aluminum flatbar for a strait edge, there is no more than .020" deveation over the eight foot length. Used my table saw to build it on. I spent a couple hours trueing up and leveling the table saw before I started on this. The honey comb center is 3/4" ply. Along with a 3/4 ply top and a 1/2 ply bottom piece to seal it all up. The pedestal/frame was leveled in place and the table top just sets on top of that with out the need of fasteners. Will use a piece of sheet rock as a top layer to build my first project with.

Rick,
That table looks strong enough to be used for building a big block Chevy engine. My Lord, how much does it weigh? It should never sag or twist. Great Job!!!!! I expect to see many great models come from that table.

Rick my table is almost indetical to your, I didn't put the 1/2" ply underneath. I also added 3/8 lag screws to the bottom of ech leg for leveling screws. No matter where I move my table I can relevel it in just a few minutes.

Good job Rick! Hope you add the 1/2" foam under the sheet rock. It allows you to fully insert pins without bottoming onto the hard wood table.
I've not seen very much building info lately, so in an attempt to stir up the creative juices among everyone, I humbly submit my wild building ravings for the past few months.
1. Cowl treatment to accomodate motor wiring and exhaust.
2. Gear mounting showing access hatch so I can fix "bad landing" problems
3. Gear Covers - They slide under gear fairings and are held in place by two button head MS
4. Gear covers in place and bottom wing fairings
5. Wing fairing and gear fairing running under wing. Some sanding and fitting yet needed!
6. Wheel pant bracket roughed out using 1/16" steel & Silver solder. The "U" bend grips the gear leg.
7. Wheel pant bracket cut and bent to fit angle of wheel pant sides. Drilled and tapped 4-40.
8. Pant installed.
9. Servo setup. Can switch on flying lights and then add strobes and landing lights from XMTTR - Elevators activated with Sullivan Carbon Filled Gold-N-Rods. Regular nyrod to tail wheel and carb. I hate nyrod but I think these carbon rods are the best way to get back to the elev. with nice straight exits where I want them!
A little more sanding and cockpit work and then on to covering. Whooorah!!
OK fella's - have at it!!

RE: WACO YMF
Thanks Jacque -
This aircraft that I'm modeling, has only wing running lights and strobes but no belly strobe or tail lights. The wingtip lights are three way lights with coloured facing forward and white pointing rear and the strobe is in the middle and is mulit-directional.
Here are pix of the unclad landing gear with pants and skirts etc. and a pix of a wing tip light previously posted. And my version of the Waco Logos.

Thanks to all for the positive comments on the building table. I must admit, I am quite anxious to start building something with it. I hope the table can somehow help me build something that will be in the same league as all of you guys.
Bill, I have no idea how much it weighs. It is light enough that my wife can (barely) help me carry it a piece at a time. You are right though, it is solid as a rock. By the way, I’ll be looking forward to the Top Gun Pictures.
Anthony, I did not think about the adjusters in the bottom of the legs for leveling. I just used shims. That will leave me with something to add to it when the day comes to move it.
Jim (SuperCubMan) your build is coming along nicely. I sure do like the detail pic’s of the full scale wheel pant assembly. By any chance did you have a tape measure with you and jot down some measurements???? I might add you have done a very nice job of duplicating scale construction of your landing gear.
Here is a picture of it in place with 4’ florescent lights hung.

Looks as if your little Frau intends to keep you safely in the building room. The door appears to be barricaided by the table.

replace the fluorescent lights with UV and it could double as a tanning bed.
Very nice table, Rick. looks more like furniture than workbench careful, or the wife might yell if you get glue on it

RE: WACO YMF
Hi Jacque - No I never drew anything up other than notes jotted on a pad. The gear is easy to make if you do any silver soldering and a little turning on a lathe. I am far from being an expert but it worked OK anyway. The main gear is 1/2" thickwalled aluminum tubing picked up from the local "Metals Supermarket" store. I used the plans to measure length and the width of track. I picked up the heaviest springs I could from the local harware store that would fit inside the tubing. I turned a lip on a piece of 1/2" aluminum rod I got from the LHS and it is forced into the top of the tube about 1". It has an ear on the top drilled for a 4-40 bolt. Then I turned a bottom piece to slide into the 1/2" tube from the same material. It shows well in pix #8 of the previous post. This bears against the spring for oleo effect. The toughest part was making a collar as shown partly in Pix #8, on which to attach the center struts and the rear struts. These struts are all just 1/4" and 5/16" auto brakeline tubing and they're attached with 4-40 and 6-32 socket head screws into hardwood fuse supports with T-nuts. I flattened the ends of all struts and bolted them together with 4-40 socket hear bolts or button head bolts with lock nuts on all bolts so they won't spin off. I used stainless steel hardware where I could. If this isn't enough info, let me know what isn't clear and I will try to help on it. It really isn't hard and I'm sure if I can do it anyone could. Damifino could probably turn out a set on a day!! Here is another pix that may show a bit more. Since the gear is now covered I can't show it all. You can see the collar I had to make with two "ears" on it to bolt the center and rear struts. I just have to figure out how to make the covering work ?
Cheers

Here tis.....Some of the close-up detail shots from Mike Barbee's YMF Classic, and lo and behold there was Charlie (Mr. Waco) Nelson complete with the Seidel Radial powered 1991 Version. Charlie is doing well, and will be joining us in the Brotherhood. Hope y'all enjoy the photos, There are several members of the Brotherhood there this year, Me, Mike Barbee, Mitch Epstein and maybe a few more. Today was the Pro-AM, and so some of the big guns won't be arriving until tomorrow. More Photos daily. You saw it here first.
