Hi Guys, thanks for the information on CG. I flew it yesterday and it was gorgeous. DLE30 was perfect for it and CG was fine around the recommended 5 and 3/8th " . The incidence is 0,0,0 and it flew perfectly, tail up etc..was really impressed. Cowl still needs painting, but here is a couple of shots

Hey guys, really looking forward to giving my Waco a full shake down. But in the meantime, a nice little video put together by a friend, of its second ever flight. Hope you enjoy. Just need to finish that darn cowl !!

If you have room for another older brother (I'll be 70, soon) I'd be pleased to receive the next available number.
Mine is an old Pica 1/5 kit for which I've purchased a Saito FA-115 (2.1hp). Fell in love with a new generation Waco I saw at the EAA fly-in in Oshkosh nearly 25 years ago. Have read up to page 59 of this wonderful thread, so far. Figured I'd join in while I attempt to read the whole thing. Haven't begun construction, yet.

Monster planes 2013............I'm planning on coming down again this year with the big green monster. Anyone else going?
The only thing is I MAY have to cancel at the last moment. My 92 yr. old Mum is not doing too well, so I need to spend quite a bit of time with her.
So, we'll see how it goes, but the plan for now is, I'm coming down.
Cheers,
Dave.

Dave,
I planning to go and am flexible on which day. We are leaving in two weeks for the winter in Fort Myers and would plan on driving up for the day and then going back. Let me know your plans when you can firm them up. Best wishes with your mother, mine made it to 92 before passing on.

NEW BROTHER ALERT!!!!!
We have a new Brother. Welcome Waco1. You are Brother #241. Sorry it took so long, but I haven't been on in a few days.
For some reason, with this new system, I can't change the Font size or color.

Thanks fellas.
The $200 (IIRC) kit I bought had some slight water damage and rust spots on the wire. The decals and windshield plastic are too ratty to use (the decals aren't much of a loss because I am inclined to work up a custom paint scheme). But the wood is mostly all OK, the plans are usable, and it included a really nice epoxy/glass cowl, which needs a tiny repair. Also included were a very heavy pair of some plastic(?) wheel pants. Someone had started on the tail feathers, only.
Almost immediately after buying the (new) Saito FA-115 I began to have serious doubts if it would provide adequate power (2+ hp) for scale flight. But the early pages of this thread helped quell my fear. Besides only wanting a 4-stroke, my reasoning behind this choice was that the extremely light weight (for a 4s), 24 oz w/ muffler, and smaller fuel load would help me build a lighter model which would keep flying at lower speeds and not hit the ground as hard. My biggest reservation is that one spec sheet shows the "benchmark" prop as 15" (APC 15 x 6 @8800 rpm), and that a larger diameter might be better for the big round cowl. I understand that, even though I would try to locate all heavy weights, forward, ballast may possibly be needed in order to optimize CG location.
Although I am in awe of some of the highly detailed models, I would be satisfied with a scale-like appearance and a few obvious details. No smoke. Maybe tinker with it later. I like the look of the corrugated ailerons, if that can be lightweight. None were provided in my old kit.
Radio is a Futaba 7C.

Very nice, congratulations! You might want to use more than 2 meters of the runway next time…just kidding. There certainly is plenty of power with the radial. I hope you did scuff the left wing tip on the landing.

Hello all,
Anybody have photos of fuse side stringers down low where they contact bottom stringers. I'm about to start laying them in and have not seen anything on that.
Thanks,
Mike Hopkins

What era are you trying to model (1930s or the newer Waco Classic)? Along the bottom the side stringers appear to fair into the lower corner stringer as in P1 or terminate at a bulkhead. The fairing from the wings are attached at different points, the 1930 era are attached at the lowest stringer (P2) and the modern fairings are attached 1 stringer higher (P3).
