whats up all? Its me again the newb that flooded his engine when it was brand new!!!! Just to inform you guys that the Savage is running like a champ!!! thanks to many of you here. got the wheelie bar for it (still ends up on its back more often than hooker in the worst part of town) Moved my the shocks to the inside hole to help with handling... if thats possible on this big monster! had to buy rear long body post because it flips so much that it rubbed the body posts right off!! thats too much fun tho!! MT.... how you running man? good I hope. I havent gone anywhere I am just really trying to get a truggy right now to take to a local track, I'll still take the savage but man those truggys handle and are fast as heck too! anyway just checkin' in.

RE: OFFICIAL SAVAGE X 4.6 FORUM
wow...well since this old thread has been revived... i have a question.
went to start my truck yesterday and and it fires well. when i put it on the ground and give it gas, the rpms shoot up high but the truck is barely inching along. It is the F4.6 with an ofna 086 pipe (fixed the exhaust leak...thanks BudBud).
I have already checked:
-the spur/cb for damage.
-slipper clutch nut is 1/2 turn out
-f/r diffs are good
-if i hold the spur in place and try to roll the truck, it locks up... no clicking or grinding sound, the truck doesn't move.
with wheels off the ground it responds to the throttle well.
I have not yet:
-opened up the trans
- checked the dogbones (it slipped my mind[&:])
can you think of anything else that might be wrong? I havent been doing donuts or landing jumps on power, no tumbling crashes.

I'd check the set screws on the cups leading out of the transmission & into the front & rear diffs. I'd also check the pins that go through the axles & make sure they aren't lost / broken. Then I'd check the wheel hexes. I've never had a set of wheels outlast the tires. Last I'd pull the engine & see what the clutch shoes look like.

I don't think there is a problem from the transmission through the wheels if you can hold the spur gear and try to move the truck and it locks up. You can, however, still have a worn out slipper clutch pad and have it feel locked up in that way but still not take the power of the truck when running. That would be a single weakness point and more likely than cups on both side of the transmission being loose or all the wheel nuts being loose at the same time.
The other thing it can be is inside the clutch - but its unlikely that all three clutch springs are broken but the shoes could be worn or stuck or not engaging properly. I still think its the slipper pad.

RE: OFFICIAL SAVAGE X 4.6 FORUM
thanks for all the suggestions....i will check all those things i never thought of
last night i noticed that the flywheel was easy to turn over by hand, very little to no resistance. I took the cooling head off and then rotated the flywheel by hand looking at the piston. it does not move up and down consistantly. when the piston gets to the bottom...i cant bring it back up by moving the flywheel. logic tells me that it must be the piston rod or something like that, which is causing a missed connection.
But.....when i spin it with the roto-start it turns over normally. if the rod was broken then the engine wouldnt be able to spin or start??? i am confused and wont be able to break the motor down till tonight.
By the way...what format does a video have to be. so that i can post it on RCU. i tried to post an "MVI" and it is not supported.

Its likely a loose fluywheel nut. Don't think that something being loose is black and white. It could be that the flywheel is too loose to handle the engines power but tight enough to turn when the engine is turned over without the glow plug installed. It won't go 'up' because the cylinder is pinched providing a lot of resistance. I would remove the engine and check the flywheel nut tightness. This is likely not a broken crank - that would have a whole bunch of other problems that are obvious.

trying to get to the flywheel nut........
the first screw that goes over the clutch bell was loc-tited so hard that when i tried to back the screw out it would turn the motor over. I ended up putting a popsicle stick in the exhaust port to hold the piston down while i used a drill on that screw in the front.
please see the video of my clutch springs/shoes...what could cause the springs to stretch like this?

Savagebane - sorry I didn't see your post for ages. Clutch springs are springs and they will stretch out with use. even with the centrifugal force thats placed on them when the engine spins.
Buzz, I get the mad max look. How does it hold up to bashing? I am looking to get some alumium in the right places on the truck just like you did.
