I'm liking that Big Red too for when(if..) my Spec 3 in my LST2 dies..

Don't forget the Losi 454 - another LRP Spec 3 twin..:

http://www.losipartshouse.com/servle...chpath=1560241

Another SH 28 engine - along with those from Nosram, LRP, SH, Dynamite, etc... All SH engines..

At the moment though the LRP 30 is going for the price of the 28 here in Germany... I want I want I want....

Is that whole bunch not part of the Golden Lion Enterprise? At any rate, they do build a nice running engine.

What do you mean by that? How does the backplate afec the gearing you can use? I was thinking of getting one for my savage x...
Because it's so wide it limits how far to the right the engine can move, thus making a 17/49 gearing combo nigh impossible.

Don't think it's AS big. Pretty sure the XTM 457 has the smaller backplate.
Take that with a grain of salt though.

So is the Big Red the same as the LRP .28? or are they 2 different engines? if they are different how do they compare as far as power and RPM's? anybody have them both?

Edit: I just looked up the specs on amains site and they are different. the LRP is an 8+1 port motor and the big red is a 5+1 port. so I know now they are not the same engine but how do they compare as far as performance? the big Red is $20 cheaper than the LRP Z.28R Spec 3

yakfish, you're not far from ThunderbirdJunkie
[/OT]

all the 6 port SH 28s seem to be hovering right around the same power level.

The .28 here appears to be made by the same company for 1/2 the price... maybe it's the 3 port one with a cheap cooling head

I think the LRP28 that you looked at was the bump-start, not pull-start because the pull-start is a 6 port as well IIRC.

The LRP Spec 3 pullstart and rotostart versions are the same port-wise - I think it's correct to refer to them as 6-ports, because two are only bypass ports - or something like that.. But it has more ports than the LRP Spec 2/SH P6/XTM 457, etc.., which are also probably mis-labeled re port-count..

But whatever, I think it's safe to say all of the above, plus the Big Red, however many ports, are awesome engines, and will throw a Savage around nicely... I'd get what's cheapest.. And yeah, the BR looks cool too..

Yeah the Big Red looks awesome, but what gearing would I have to run? Bear in mind I will have 40 series tires by then.... Also, what gearing would I have to run with the lrp .28? Or is stock ok? I have bought a 16t CB for some added torque for the bigger tires... any other recommendations? Thanks

40 series tires you'd want 15/52 or 15/49

they are all 6 port engines.....the Spec 3 is a 6 port, the Spec 2 is a 6 port, the BigRed is a 6 port......

I have been running a LRP 30 for a bit.... IMO learn to tune better and buy a Picco 28...LRP 30 is kinda lame when its stock, we really notice its lack of RPM

Then what's the difference exactly between a Spec 2 and a Spec 3??
