Default propane Vs. power max

The instructions on my p-70 recomend starts with coleman powermax propane-butane combo, I can't get that in my country except typical coleman propane cylinders, can the p-70 be started with it?

All miniature turbines can be started on propane, look at post 26 in the following thread, there is a detailed adapter that can be utilized from the propane cylinder.
Just keep the pressure down so you don't introduce too much heat and let the engine spool up gradually.

works just fine on my P-60 and P-70, we changed over last year.
get the coleman adapter from Dreamworks.
We have used it with and without the solenoid.
I like the solenoid better as the pop is real quiet to my ears.

There are other brands besides Coleman which have similar butane-propane products. Don't know what, if any of these are availble in Costa Rica.

As the guys have indicated, propane will work. The vapor pressure is higher and sometimes doesn't light off as easily.

If you have problems, you might have to lower the Propane percentage down from 80% in the Limits menu and/or make an adjustment to the Glow Plug voltage.

propane is more readily available, it's cheaper and it works regardless of the outside temp.

Hello,

I ran straight Coleman propane for about 1 year before JetCat switched to the propane/butane mix. The issue with straight propane is that in hot weather, the onboard pressure can exceed the limits on the tubing we use and cause a rupture.

You don't have to use Powermax, their are several brands (MSR, etc) that have propane butane mixes, any of those will work.

Hope that helps,

Here in Puerto Rico we have the same problems. Nobody carries Powermax, and if I need it, it comes by boat since it is considered highly hazardous.
In the states NO ONE wants to ship it. For many years we've used Propane with excellent results, even though the temp. here runs in the 85-90 degrees.
I asked the guys from Jetcat and they told me that propane can be used, no problems. So we'll continue using what we can get here" Propane.

The only motor I have ever had problems using straight propane on was a Modellbau T-500

that thing would never ramp

All my Jetcats start perfect everytime with straight propane

Is it safe to say all of you are using off board propane and not trying to fill the on board tank?

i go from bottle to check valve to turbine, just start the ignition and as soon as the starter engages, open the valve to the first detent, you get instant ignition, then open the valve to the 3rd detent and when the fuel pump kicks in and it starts to ramp, turn off the propane.
