When I built (or an experienced builder completed) a US40+ a year back, I used monokote available with my LHS. Turned out that the same had soaked in a flood and it started to delaminate even while I was doing it- the clear plastic came off and the pigment and glue stayed behind. We persisted anyway and used a lot of CA to hold it in place. Now, I want to re-cover the thing with some good covering. Its of the same colour as the original but I want to remove the old residue first. What is the best way to remove the old covering where only pigment is left?

Try rubbing it down with acetone. It won't get all of it, but should get most. You can then remove the remaining by sanding. You're going to find it hardest where you CA'ed the old covering.
Good Luck.

I traded a model for a model.
The model I got was covered in plastic iron-on material.
I just pulled it all off. Areas of CA? There's a CA softener, DBonder.
Worked for me.

It may take a couple of applications of the acetone before the glue gets soft enough to work. I've had pretty good success using single edge razor blades as scrapers. Its a tedious process. The acetone dries quick and the goo will start to harden up again.

Last time I did this, I used the bottom on my balsa knife blade (the part that doesnt have an edge) as a scraper. Another approach was to place some newspaper on the area with residual covering and iron over it, when you pull the newspaper off, it takes most of the covering off as well. However the second approach left gooey areas and I reverted cack to scraping
