Eagle 2 ARF & 4 Stroke Engine?
#103
Elad, the weather up here has been real crummy. The wife barely got the lawn mowed last week. It was cold and rainy both days of the weekend, so there was no chance to fly. It did allow me to get working again on my FW 190, so it wasn't all bad. Hope you get your Eagle soaring soon.

Elad, For more fun and enjpyment, I work 25 miles from Don. We had hail three times and the sun was out each time. Don't you wish you lived here?

Bill,
Thanks for the "Plane" burma shave signs. Being a newbie I can most readily identify with the better bigger, post hole digger, so that's my favorite so far. And isn't K&B out of business now? Seems I read that recently. From what I've picked up on, K&B has a very good reputation on their engines.
Memory failed me. I forgot about the tube shaving bubbles and went straight to the aresol cans. Shame on me. I can't remember if they even had hair spray back then, so the moose can tuned muffler might not have been invented just yet. ha
I can remember the first time I addad a penny with a nickel to buuy a Coke from a machine. I thought that was really weird, and actually thought it wouldn't work in the machine. ha

Elad, As I'm writing this it is hailing. The 25 mile trip home from work, tonite was in a snowstorm. About halfway home there was a pickup, on it's side, in a ditch. Remember last week when I told you that building season could be this week? Well it's BUILDING SEASON!!! Hope that you have good flying weather this weekend.

Looks like there would be no point in telling Tom and Don to go to "Hail," as they are already there!
And I have bought many a bottled Coke for a nickle from a machine.
K&B are still in business, they are now part of RJL Industries. Just restocked my K&B parts supply a couple weeks ago, they currently list 14 aero engines and 15 marine. Granted, a lot of the variety is "Mix and Match" of parts, but they are there to be had.

Meantime, here's one just for you:

Bill,
I don't know if I ever would have tried ot think of a rhyme for Thomas. ha You sure nailed it. I'll try to be a good little pilot, well good tall 210 lb pilot.
The wx down here is getting like Autumn (for us anyway.) It's onto the mid to low 60s for the lows and in the 70s for the highs lately. Generally we get a snap like this then it gets like Summer, in the afternoons, again for a 30 to 40 days.
Deer hunting season starts in November down here and I can remember when I was a kid going Deer hunting, taking off the coat and shirts all the way down to just a t-shirt on top in the afternoon. Then by dark it was cold enough for the coat again. It's a good time of year to catch cold and/or get aggravated trying to dress right during the spell of brisk AMs and hot PMs.
Thanks for the tip on K&B. I'll look up the site and add it to favorites. I'm sure I heard one of my club members saying the plane he was flying had a K&B engine. If I remember right it sounded different somehow.
Did you ever try building a plane with Coroplast? I stumbled onto the SPAD web site. They have a lot of designs posted with detailed instructions for building, balancing etc.
From what I read there, a lot of balsa builders aren't especially enamoured with the concept of using plastic. I'll admit a lot of the planes are ugly,,,, with big bold capital letters. Like some people down here say, "They are closely related to those Lee Brothers, Home Lee and Ug Lee." ha

I was trained by a fellow named Mark Andrews while I was still in school. He was the lyricist for our part time band, the "Temple Street Drunks." We were all in the same dorm, on Temple Street, New Haven, Connecticut. When a new pop song came out, Mark could have a vulgar lyric in twenty minutes or so. He taught me some of his tricks.
A commercial I wrote:
----------
Hold the pickle,
. Hold the lettuce!
Man! That horsecrap,
. Sure upset us!
All we ask,
. Is that you let us,
SLING IT OUR WAY!!
Have it OUR WAY at BOOGER SLING!!
Remember folks, a Ham Booger is PIG SNOT!!!
----------
Needless to say, Burger King didn't buy it.
Weather here is high-low now also, a/c daytime, turn the heat on at night.
Not yet used coroplast for a plane, but I'm intrigued by the whole SPAD concept, and I will try it one of these days. And I've seen some SPADs that didn't have anything to do with your Lee brothers. Really good looking.
But your mentioning the Lees reminded me of the woman who said she'd been in bed with "Athu-Rattus" (arthritis). Her companion responded, saying "Ah knows dem Rattus boys, an' dat Athu', he a heller!"
----------
The very first crash,
. for our boy Dale.
A quarter mile away,
. We heard his wail!
Cyanoacrylate.
----------
K&Bs are very good engines, but except for the new "48" most really aren't screamers. Good solid engines, given reasonnable care they'll run forever.

I lived in Southeast Virginia for more than 20 years, retired, decided to be close to the kids. Got a place in Maryland, lasted one winter. Moved to Florida.
In other words, regarding your invitation, no, thank you very much.
With the exception of rain, I fly year around on my choice of seven club fields in the area.
Yep. Seven.

Some people are privileged to live where it does not snow, others are forced to live where it does.
If you really liked it you would be flying from Point Barrow, on the North Slope of Alsaka.
You have my comiserations, sir, but definitely not my envy. Unless I am forced to move, my servos will never see 30 degrees again. Nor will I.

Bill, I really don't blame you. Six or seven months of winter is more than anyone can take. The modelling is one thing that helps me get through it. The summers up here are really nice, tho. Highs usually in the low 80's and alot less humidity than you guys from Dixie are used to. I don't even have airconditioning in the house. Most summers don't require it.

I looked up the site and saw the Screamer "propoganda."
I thought it was just hype. Maybe I was wrong. What do you think makes the .48 a real screamer Bill?

Tom,
If we get a 2 inch snow here the whole country shuts down for 2 weeks, except for the ggrocery stores.

Elad, if we get two inches of snow, we figure that's about average, for a day! Most of our snow seems to fall in Jan. and Feb. When it finally lets up and the sun shines, we get the flying bug real bad. Wish we could have your and Bill's winters, but I'll keep our summers. The reason everything closes down during snow in the South is that it doesn't happen often and the road commisions can't prepare for something that might happen once in a blue moon. Up here they know it's coming. Usually I'll see plows out at 5:30 AM when I'm on my way to work. Unless it's real bad out, the roads are in good shape (passable) by the time I get off work. Good thing, cause then I can get home and work in my planes1

In Northern Kentucky, where I wasbeforeVirginia. it wasn't uncommon for the ground to turn white in mid-November, we'd not see dirt again until the following April. Bah.
K&B "Screaming 48?" just check the reviews. Normal airplane version is rated for peak power at 15K rpm, other versions over 25K rpm with a pipe.
The type 4800 is rated 2.0 hp at 15k, the 4825 DF engine goes up to 3 hp.
Even subtracting hype it has to be a really strong engine. The 8702 at 2.1 hp, 7510 at 2.5 hp, and the 8703 at 2.7 hp. And then the 7525 - 3.2 hp at 25K rpm.
Power or not, running at 25K rpm it's going to be screaming.
Bill.
