Default CA Problem

I used an wrong term in another post sorry. On the 4* there is a metal aileron control arm that is shaped like a "Z" that has a brass tube around it that handles the aileron movement. (The brass tube is glued to the TE of the wing and the rod moves back and forth inside the tube to move the aileron.) I got some CA in the brass tube so now I can't move the arm. Is there a way to break the bond in the tube or can someone suggest another way to setup the ailerons? I called Sig and it would cost $15 for the parts but I think there has to be a better way to rig this up.

That is one of life's very unhappy experiences. You should be able to get it loose with patience by dribbling some acetone into the tube from both ends and working it slowly. Not fun to do. Then put some thin lube oil into the tube.

BTW the part is called the aileron torque wire and bearing tube. Next time put some grease around the ends of the tube to keep the glue out. Good luck.

Thanks for replying and the correction on the names. It is funny how simple something like putting grease on first seems when you are looking back.

Caine:

If you still can get to the tube, heating it with a soldering gun or iron will help you free it.

If all else fails, and you can't get it loose, you can use two aileron servos, one in each wing bay. Fairly easy to do and is a better quality system anyway. Then just cut off the vertical portion of the torque rods and don't use them at all. If they bind, cut them off with a Dremel cutting wheel where they enter the tube at the outboard end.

Good luck!

Be careful with the acetone, powerful stuff! Don't they make CA releasing agents? Try your local hobby shop for some of that.
