I haven't looked at the plans sine 2011, are the ribs on the wing sheet? If so, I should take them over and have a copy made into a PDF that I can import into my cutting program. Hmmm. I am intrigued to build another wing now. Thanks, like I aint got enough to do already. LOL

Let me know what you find!!

I see that they sell just the plans through SIG - if that's true I would probably just buy the plans rather than the wing kit, knowing all the modifications I want to do....

There was this old man and woman at an airshow bickering over the $50 price of a ride in a Biplane. The pilot said, tell you what, if you can go the entire ride without making a sound, the ride will be free. They agreed. The pilot does everything he can think of the get the two of them to make noise, finally he gives up and lands. When he gets out he realizes the guy is all alone in the plane. He asks what happened to your sife, and he said she fell out. Pilot asks why didn't you say something.

$50 is $50!

I know the frames and ribs are all shown on the Kadet Jr plans so, one can assume anyway, it would only make sense that the ribs would be shown on the plans of your LT-40, that is if it wasn't an ARF

I found pictures of the plans and the ribs are shown, so I can get mine scanned into a PDF full size and import them into my cutting software.

Excellent. I may go just buy myself a set of the plans then.

In general, do you guys feel it's better to scratch build buying my own wood, or just buy the wing kit and kit bash? From a economical and labor intensity point of view...

The kit includes all the pieces, including the die cut tips. It may cost as much or more to buy all the components needed, leading/trailing edges, plywood for the tips, spruce for the spars, etc. than just buying the kit. Since I am stock piling materials for an eventual side business, not a big deal, but for a one off project, the kit could be the better option, but you need the plans either way.

I just dug my plans out. Yes the rip pattern is shown. It is on the sheet with the fuse. it is the side view and sitting on the wing saddle. You will have to make the center ribs thinner for center section sheeting by what ever thickness you sheet with.

I made a bunch of ribs several several years ago, but never went farther at the time. Things were to unsettled at the time. Fact is I made a bunch of ribs for several other planes, it is so quick and easy.

I made the Kadet ribs to use slotted flaps and barn door ailerons. I also made extra ribs to stretch the wing. If i remember correctly I think I was going to add another foot to the wing. And because of the size I was also going to make the wing as plug in half's.

Ken

Why? The ribs are all the same height as the exposed area of the ribs have a cap strip covering the edge for easier application of the covering. You could also bevel the edges of balsa stock and cover the entire wing with a thin balsa skin, using the beveled areas to glue the material together and then glass it with .5 ounce glass

Are you saying that's a self-inflicted "forehead slap" moment? I have several of them a week

Yeah I did the forehead slap. I was rushing to get the pics and post as I had other businesses at hand real soon.
Well when ever I get around to this wing at least I have all of the ribs and don't need to mod a few.

I had started to say when I did the forehead slap I forgot I was still holding a hammer. But didn't because humor often fails on forum boards.

I have been in crazy building mode for the last 3 months or so, so that new wing may yet get built. Got to rebuild my Kadet Sr.'s engine or replace with a moderately bigger one. Wouldn't want to pull the tail feathers off or anything that embarrassing.

Hi
I thought I asked already so excuse me if I did; can I get a brotherhood number??? Do I have to Prospect for a year or so before I get my rocker?
Thanks a bunch; this seems to be a fun forum.

Hey Wil!!!! MIght be me, probably missed it - in which case, you have my humble apology.

Not to worry - gotcha logged, #221, all neat and tidy. Welcome to the SIG Kadet Brotherhood!!!! (been kinda quiet lately, isn't always this way though).

Prospecting - well, y'could if'n y'all wanted to, but it ain't all that necessary. However, should all y'all decide to, and y'find some gold, I'll be happy to take it off y'er hands. (sorry, that was supposed to be humorous).

Anyway, here's the "hood, as I've got it, today:

Hey Bob! I've got ZERO experience with electric, but there are a fair number of guys here that do have some. Y'might take a look-see back in time to see what's already been said about it - I'm pretty sure there ARE posts here.

Thanks Dave; and thank you for your service. 68 was a tough time to serve; thank you.
Sorry the "prospect" I was speaking of does not produce any ore. Have a great day and stay safe.

Thanks, Wil - but truly, it was not only my privilege, it was also my pleasure. 22 great years that I wouldn't trade for anything. - - - yeah, I know (heh heh)

No idea what happened yesterday. Let's try it again and see if the code still works:

Default Slow flying Kadet

I had a Kadet Senior, but the battery unplugged on take off after a touch and go. I had not checked the battery before flying because, well it was just too reliable after 11 years of flying this plane almost every week end. The engine, an OS LA .40 was locked at full throttle, slight left turn, slight up elevator. It circled up into the clouds. It typically flies 50-55 minutes on a tank if fuel. I lost it in the clouds. I had left my radio with my friend and chased after it in the car, but it was just now viewable. Another friend was looking out the window coming home from church a week later and saw my plane next to someones fence 7 away from the original take off site. He gave me the address and I went to pick it up. The right wing ran across the top of the chain link fence and nearly cut the leading edge and lower spar off. I figured after 11 years of flying nearly every weekend, that air frame had seen enough, so it was permanently retired to the trash can. Some fuel soaking was taking place under the monikote causing a few areas to peel.

Now I am flying an electric Kadet Junior. I made it a six cell, so 18" roll out and vertical take off is not uncommon. The old Kadet Senior I was lucky to get a 40 degree clime out with a possible stall.

I'm thinking of scratch building another Kadet Senior. These airplane fly like bush planes, and I love that. I was thinking of putting a .30 electric on it, slots and possibly fowler flaps and flaperons. It is a flat bottom wing, so it already flies slow, but just how slow can it fly with these mods? With a slight wind, getting pushed backwards would happen at just 1/4 throttle.

I have a 78'? Telemaster that I drop 6" paratroopers out the bottom. I widened the fuse and added bi fold doors at the bottom. I have also made the bottom of the fuselage like a funnel so that they don't get caught "too often" coming out. I can fit up to six, 6" paratroopers in this plane. I may do this as well to the Kadet because it is so much fun with kids chasing the paratroopers. That wing can lift so much. I may just run flaperons only below the wing because they are so much more efficient below the wing, forget about the flaps, just all one piece. Been flying all kinds of planes for 40 years now, and the Kadet if by far the funnest plane to fly.
