Viggo,
Your Spacewalker looks great.
I am going to tough it out and get some work done on the wing panel tonight. I want to try and finish the right panel by Friday and get a long weekend in on the 2nd panel. I think If I can do that I have a shot of framing the plane up this month.

Yes and No,
I would like to have the plane framed up and sanded before I have surgery. I would like to think I would be able to handle covering and finish before building.
It is not the end of the world if I don't have it framed up before but just trying to think ahead a bit. I already know I am going to go nuts laying flat in bed during recovery. I will know more after next Monday.

Wing Continued:
I really like the design of the wing. The kit contains lase cut ply shear webs. Once these are installed on the front and back of the main spar you are basically creating a very strong box spar. Very little trimming/sanding was required to get a good fit of the shear webs. I have the top sheeted and cap stripped and the bottom sheeting installed. The sheeting has been sanded flush with the sub-L/E and the 1/4" L/E stock is glued in place with Titebond. I will let this dry until tomorrow and sand the L/E to shape and cap strip the bottom of the wing. You can see the line in the sheeting where the outer panel and the center section join together.
More tomorrow.

Is there any way to date one of these kits? Some had newspaper stuffing, but mine has craft paper. I bought mine from a previous owner, who did not even open the box. It had shrink wrap from factory.

Catching the Spacewalker bug, I sent Sig an email to find out how much shipping here would be on the 1/3 scale version. In typical responsive Sig fashion, they got back to me fast but the news was not good. $350.00 shipping and that does not include customs charges. Looks like I need to find a set of plans and work it up myself.

Thailazer,
Bummer about the shipping charges, definitely makes the kit too expensive. I haven't really looked to see if all the templates are on the plans. I will take a look and let you know.

My kit had a 1989 newspaper for stuffing. I think it was a Des Moines Register, which is a state wide paper in Iowa, easily accessable to Sig.
I don't think the plans have all the templates, but there is probably enough info in the manual, and on the plans, for an experienced builder to construct a model from them. Fiberglass Specialties has the cowl and wheel pants. A Robart 1/3 scale Cub landing gear br suitable, too.

Thailazer, I agree with Tom. I think you can build a plane with a set of plans and the aforementioned parts commercially available. If there becomes a question about a template of a part, one of us with an intact kit can get a template to you, either by post or electronically.
By the way - My wife and I vacationed in Chiang Mai just a couple of weeks ago. We loved Thailand, and especially Chiang Mai! Wish I had known - I could have easily brought a set of plans to you.

This would be an easy one to build with just the plans, fuse formers are scale on the plan sheet, all the ribs are the same size with break aways at the ailerons. All the other parts can be copied from plan also.
Anthony your doing real good with the build, bad back and all.

Back to work on the Spacewalker,
My back was bothering me too bad the last couple days to work on it. I stopped by a Office Furniture warehouse yesterday and bought a tall stool to sit on at my build table, it should help.
I have the L/E shaped on the 1st panel and the outer panel has been cut away from the center section. The ends have been sanded and the joint looks good when the panels were joined back together.
I will get the 2nd panel on the board and get it framed up to the point that the joiner is epoxied into place. That should allow me to complete the other panel tomorrow.
One thing I do not like about the plans is the way the aileron servo's are installed. I will build some servo pockets with the servo mounted to the hatch cover. Really just a preference issue.
I will post some pics later.

Seriously though.... Glad to hear you enjoyed Chiang Mai. It is indeed one of those special places in the world.

The left wing panel is framed up on the table and the wing joiner is installed and epoxied into place. I should be able to finish the left panel tomorrow. I discovered I do not have enough sheeting on hand to sheet the center section and the inboard bay on the outer panels. The wife is going shopping tomorrow so she is going to pick some up for me.
Will be nice to get the wings completed and move on to the tail surfaces.

The left wing panel is off the table, I am working on removing the tabs at the T/E and sanding the sub-L/E to get it ready for sheeting. Nothing worthy of pics yet.

Top sheeting is on,
My desire to get the wings done is not overcoming my back's desire to keep me on the couch
. I am happy with how the wings are turning out. Should make a nice looking plane when I get it finished.

Nothing much new to report on the Spacewalker.
I did see the surgeon yesterday and got some good news. He will be able to do a minimal invasive procedure and grind away some bone from one disc to relieve the pressure from the nerves and relieve the pain. I will only be sidelined from work for about 4 weeks. After I get a recent MRI he will schedule the surgery.
Another side note: My local hobby shop is running a R/C challenge each day until Christmas. They have Real Flight 7 set up in the shop and have a dead stick landing challenge each day with different planes. You have one attempt each day to do a spot landing dead stick. I won the challenge today and won a Estes protoX quad copter. Very cool little copter that will sit in the palm of your hand and it fly's pretty good to boot. Been flying it around the living room and the cat enjoys chasing it
. Was going to give it to my grandson but I think this one Poppy is going to keep for himself LOL.
Should get some work done on the SW over the weekend.
