I'm going to take a wild stab at it.... perhaps this was built from Don Neill's plans? If it really is that old, I do not believe Hostetler had yet produced 33% Gee Bee Z plans, but I could be wrong on that.
93" span is 33% for the Z.
Don Neill's Z was the gold standard many years ago at 33%.
His son has a Facebook page called "Neill's Scale Planes... check it out:

I can state from personal experience that sanding, covering, and painting a 9 foot wing is a PITA!
You also need to consider the loads placed on the wing by the landing gear.... if you build a two-piece wing that plugs into a center section.... and the center section also mounts the gear, then you can move the aircraft around on its main gear WITHOUT having to attach the wing.
You may want to consider rebuilding as a two-piece wing. Hostetler Gee Bee Z plans would probably do the trick.
