Hello,
I have a Ace Simple Series Corsair with foam wings and I am going to be putting a OS.10 in it. Does anyone know the best way to cover the wing to give it the most strength... silk span and laytex sealer or plastic film (monocoat) or ?????
Thanks Mel

You are supposed to use reinforced strapping tape on those wings to give it strength.
If you do cover it--after applying the tape---then you'd better use a very low heat covering. Foam melts pretty easily if you get greedy with the iron.
I used the tape and then I covered it with colored Zagi tape. It's about 2.5" wide. Start from the trailing edge and overlap the tape joints by about 1/4" as you work towards the LE.
Do the bottom first and leave the LE exposed. Then flip it over and do the top; again leaving the LE exposed. Your final piece of tape will be the one on the LE to cover the last seam on the top and bottom. If you bring the tape on the bottom and the top to within about 3/4" of the LE- then you can use one single piece of tape on the LE to wrap around and cover both the top and bottom tape.
The reason you do this is to keep the seams going with the airflow. It keeps the tape from pealing off.
Hope this helps out.

I would first make sure you use the tape for reinforcement for the spar but I have used Econokote on foam wings with great success. It only goes on with a low heat setting and goes on very smooth to foam directly. Color choice is limited, however. I built a lot of foam wings for combat planes and I always cover either with econokote or ripstop nylon. The ripstop is useful for those high speed mid-airs which you should not have a problem with so I would try the econokote. Good luck.
