Balsa USA Phaeton II
#26
I'm going to Y the elevator pushrod, also talk with the factory and they told me about the wing incidence, that for stable flying the stab should be 0 and the lower wing 0 aslo, the upper wing should be 0 or 1 positive; for aerobatic the upper wing should be 1 negative. I weight it today and is 6 3/4 lb.
I already have a Hog Bipe, and really love it, so I can make a comparison pretty soon, already the Hog has a point in the easy field assembly department(under 5 minutes); the Phaeton is taking me like 15 minutes.
I just can't wait for the week end. Wish me luck.

I found this in the Sullivan page http://sullivanproducts.com/ContSysAccMainFrame.htm
Double Ball Joints
Elevator Splitter. Two ball links with locking sleeves connected to a plated steel “dumbbell†allows motion from the servo arm to two parallel surfaces at the same time.
S558 2-56 Threaded "Dumbbell" and sockets
S559 4-40 Threaded "Dumbbell" and sockets
Any other option.

Hey LouW probably we can work together in that comparison review, I been flying the Hog for a couple month now. I finish my phaeton around 2 am Friday or should I say Saturday and was checking the radio when the tx start to work erratically, so I have to send it to repair and wait and wait and wait. I'm glad that it happen on the ground though and no 10 seconds after take off, somehow my ailerons stick doesn't work and when I pull or push the elevator the ailerons also move, so probably it was goint to be a interesting fly.

Finally I was able to test fly the plane yesterday morning, the conditions couldn't't be better, it need some trim to make it fly straight but after that it flew beautiful.
Just as a reference point to anyone interested the:
Hog Bipe
-more aerobatic.
-more difficult to take off and land.
-very nice flier.
-not the best ground handling
Phaeton II
-really gentle flier.
-easy to take of and land(almost do it by it self).
-it roll rate is very slow (not necessary a bad thing).
-very good ground handling.
-think of it as your biplane trainer.
I ask a friend to take some pictures of the plane, I will be posting them very soon. I must say it was a nice experience building this kit and a great sensation to see it fly for the first time and of course land with out a hitch.

Let me know how the Saito 65 works as I am thinking that would be about right for mine too. I haven't started it yet but plan
on it soon. Either that or a Saito 72..
Thanks

I'm using an OS FX 61 and think is plenty of power for this nice flier, so I would go with the 72 FS. Very easy to fly almost like a triner with 2 wings, just keep up the speed on your landings, my tends to snap to the right if stalled, could be that I didn't build it straight enough.
I replace the landing gear from the pictures to a stronger aluminum one.

Was looking at the pictures of your Phaeton 2. I've got a kit I've had for over 15 years and am ready to build it since getting in the air again. Was wondering where you found you pilot figure. I'm looking for something a little light-hearted and comical like the one you have. Have seen it online but unable to recall location. Thanks.

I can relate to Blue Note as I have one at least that old. The plans say 1989 so I guess I'm in the ball park. I plan on putting a Saito 90 twin on it and hope the power is there[
]. Have any of you previous builders had any problem with the plane being tail heavy? Mine is opened and on the bench and waiting for a batch of glue to arrive to get started. I plan on doing alierons on both the top and bottom wing so it will not be so much like a trainer. I may post my build if I can figure out how to post pictures.

The pilot is fron Slimlines Products, I belive Tower sells them. Now for the plane being tail heavy actually mine was nose heavy with an OS FX 61 in the nose; these is a gentle fliying bipe will do only basic aerobatics, so maybe you want to save that 91 for something else.
