My giant needs a little buddy, anyone built one? Hows it fly?
What power? Any tips/changes it needs?

Thanks

Built one a couple years ago and still fly it regularly. I have a Fox .15 on it and it is fast. After flying big stuff, this thing gets real small-real quick. Builds fast and easy. Put a little extra support in the landing gear area and because of the inverted mounted engine, you have to cut a lot of the cowl away, so you will need to glass the inside to keep it in one piece. Be carefull with the control surface travel. Start on the low side and work up as you get used to it. The surfaces are small but they work very well. Mini radio is a must- small fuse. Flies like it is on rails, but will twist, turn, flip and flop and give you back change. Don't horse it off the ground or it will stall, may do better on a paved strip, but lands slower than it looks like it would.
I have a ball with mine and is a welcome change from the big stuff. If I crash it this weekend I will buy another the first of next week. Should you build one. you will be impressed how well something this small flies.

I want enough power to hover it, will the .15 be enough? Ive got a .28 sitting here. Did you have to add any weight to balance it in the front or rear?

Got any pics???

Thanks

No. A .15 will not hover this plane. A .28 would come closer, but this is not really the type or designed for 3D type of flight. They say you can fly a brick if you have enough motor, so I guess anything is possible. You never know unless you try. I didn't have to add any weight to it to balance it. Sorry but I have no means of posting pictures, but if you look at Lanier's pictures in their adds, that is what mine looks like, it is the first plane I copied someone elses covering ideas.
sorry I can't be of more help.

John,
funny you should ask...I just finished my first flights today with my Stinger 10. Can't give many building tips since I only build the 1st quarter of it and had somebody finish it for me (I know I'm a wuss...)

I have an old Magnum 15 in it...not enough to hover it...go with a .25 and you can throttle back if you need to...it's a fun little thing though. does great violent snap rolls. I am told it will flat spin but my motor died when trying a spin so I deadsticked it in.

It is fun but I'm getting used to overpowering stuff so if I were to do it again I'd go no smaller than .25 Maybe a .91fx??

Oh yeah...balance...mine balanced spot on with the .15 and then I pushed the battery a bit under the tank to fit the receiver (not alot of space in this aircraft)...make sure your .28 is light or you will need to plan on adding the battery aft somehow or some tailweight possibly...if you have other questions on it fire away...I did have fun today with it and would have had more but the Magnum .15 was finicky...I might eventually go with a bigger OS engine or something...I had the .15 on hand and it's mounted inverted so that's probably part of it...I'll try to take some digital pics and get them posted...

would love pics. What servo's are you using? maybe if I mounted them in the tail?

I'm using HS-81's and one HS101 on the throttle. Maybe putting them in the tail would help and help to not add unecessary weight. Then again I wonder what my old Magnum .15 weights and how much more your motor might weigh?

I have one with a Norvel 15. Hauls butt! All HS81's and a 555 Rx with a 250mA pack, REAL TIGHT FIT!!!! I know a dude that has an OS25FX on the front, and 2 mid size servos in front of the tail. It screams and balanced spot on. If I ever have another one it will get the 25 in it for sure.

Default I'll sell mine...80% finished.

I'm posting this for sale here because of the nature of the thread. This is not a duplicate post.

I have one. It's about 80% finished. I will sell it with the OS.15 (slightly used, about ten flights on it), spinner, wheels, etc...basically all of the hardware, a nice aluminum OS engine mount...I'll even throw in ALL of the things I have for airplanes of that size so you can choose what you want to use.

It's not a garbage built airplane...it's a nicely assembled airplane. Cowl was miscut. You will need a replacement, although I would suggest a soda bottle bottom or similar solution to enhance or personalize the looks. Maybe give it the radial look.

$100.00 plus $10.00 for priority air takes the airplane, motor, hardware, a few fuel tanks, a couple of motor mounts, some extra strip aileron torque rods...whatever I can fit into the box that is meant for small airplanes.

Please e-mail if you are interested. I can have it packed and shipped in a day.

Thanks,
Mark Novack

Mark,

wish I would have bought yours...I think I have about $350 in this little monster as I had someone finish building it for me which tacked another $140 to the total cost! Add kit, parts, motor, rx, servos and this became one overly expensive small plane.

I have an O.S. .26 Surpass on the nose and the battery under the turtledeck. The cowl just fits and is actually about 5/16" shy of the backplate. Many days I fly without the cowl. I attached the turtledeck with screws to access the battery for CG adjustments. Weight of the reinforced cowl does affect balance on such a small plane. She's a only slightly heavy by the box, and the tick-tick makes it O.K. I wouldn't call it overpowered, just well-powered

Default Wanna Thrill???

At the Henderson KY 2000 Fly-In I watched a very good pilot flying a Stinger 10 sporting a TT Pro 36 on a tuned pipe. Really sort of mind boggling.
