i got some pics finally. There is some of my pipe setup with a new coupler material. I have yet to see if it will hold up in the long term yet. Here in Canada we are in the winter hence the skiis and we got almost a foot of snow on the ground. i did raise the fuel tank becuase i thought it might cause a problem if left stock and it runs fine with the tank raised maybe and inch or so.

Hi there,
Im Not really that qualified to start commenting on the 3d stuff.[&o] Can tell you, however, that the Cap 232 is an un forgiving aircraft that is (for some reason) a pleasure to fly. It really keeps me on my toes whilst in the air.........

hello
the cap could probably used as a 3D plane if you were careful to build very light so it won't snap. It is not one of the best 3D planes around but if you want something that actually looks like a real airplane i guess the Cap would work. I haven't really done any hard 3D manoevers but i can hover it and do some other stuff with no tendency to snap.

Just putting the finishing touches on mine as well. Mine is equipped with a 61 Magnum 4 stroke, and all Futaba Gear. It won't have real good verticle performance with the engine I have on it, but it should fly it pretty scale, and be able to do some fun aerobatics. It was a fun kit to build, and I am hoping it fly's as good or almost as good as my GP Extra 300 of the same size.

I am still trying to trim mine out for good flight. I found mine wanted to climb way too much, and had to dial in alot of down elevator. It did not land well unless I kept speed way up. I moved my CG back, and adjusted both ailerons up alot (to add down force to wings). That helped alot, but still was not right. I suspect that the engine needs about 2 degrees down thrust to make it fly right. When I have time, I will shim the engine 2 degrees and take out the aileron trim to see if that helps. I read a review some time ago that suggested the same thing- down thrust needed. I was impressed with the overall performance otherwise. If you have one that you have not flown yet, I suggest CG half way between center and rear of suggestion on the plans/instructions, and add some down thrust!! Nice kit to build, though. BTW, mine has OS .70, which gives great verticle with a APC 13x6. Balance was perfect with no lead. I would recommend this engine highly for this airframe. I was just surprised that the downthrust issue is not what it should be. Perhaps GP should add an update regarding this.

Glad to see there are so many people still building kits. Must say i really love my Cap - its a seriously pretty aircraft in the air and is good fun to fly.
On the trim issues - mine is exactly the same - also climbing and requiring down trim. Landings can be very slow tho as mine does not snap. In heavy wind you have to use quite a bit of throttle otherwise it does an elevator landing usually short of therunway - but again, no snapping! I tried adding down thrust but it didnt seem to make any difference. I think the wing incidence could be wrong and will change it one day.
In light wind it will 3 d ie elevators and harriers, blenders, spins etc altho the latter may rquire a cg change to flatten them. Mine has no lead to balance and flies well with 50 sx and pitts muffler.
Am now thinking about a bigger Cap - say 25% in kit form of course[8D]

Flyingpilgrim it actually sounds like it is tail heavy caps are notorious for it, and that would explain why you have to land so hot. Mine is now unoperational thanks to the flimsy landing gear set up, it ripped right off again. I love the plane and it is a big change from flying my zimpro ultimate, im just not use to it yet i've had 3 flights on it, and now the motor is finally running strong. The problem i had last flight is on landing im use to three pointing all my other planes and i just let it get to slow on me and it stalled into the field. This cap flys really good with where i have the cg on it now it doesnt tip stall or anything. It stalls to the nose and doesnt give you any real indications that its gunna stall, it just does. I also now really recomend perry pumps i love them!!

And heres a pic of mine after i fixed it the first time

I checked my incidences today and confirmed my wing and stab at 0 degrees, engine thrust line at the designed +2 degrees. I recall reading in GP literature somewhere that this was in fact correct, but it just flies wrong, and doesn't behave tail heavy. I am going to shim the engine for zero degree up/down, and try it again. I haven't had time to mess with it lately, but hope to get out this weekend.

Howdy,
I have my kit still in the box. I have three 2-stroke possible engines for this airplane, .46, .50, .61.
Which one you guys recommend?
Thanks
Pedro

Hi pedro, I think the .50 would work best for the Cap. The 61 is too heavy and the 46 is similar weight as the 50 but well, less power. It would fly fine on a 46 though.

I'm not Josh but, my vertical is very good my engine and prop makes about 9.5# of static thrust plane weighs 5.5#, so make your own conclusions.

Tom and Josh,
Thanks both of you for the information on the vertical performance using the 50 engine. Definitely, I will install a 50 in my CAP.
Any other modifications? How does it handle on grass? Does it tip over the nose?
Pedro

no but the landing gear setup is pretty bad mine has broken off twice and it riped the structure off the fuse both times, also make sure your balence is on the forward settings for the recommended balence range! and try to push the tank as high as you can in the fuse and makes sure the carb is even with your tank lines (as they come outta the tank)or else your engine wont run right because the feed for the motor from the tank wont be sufficient.

hey josh, for the landing gear all i did to reinforce it was add a piece of 1/8 ply with a cutout for the landing gear plate that fits over the LG plate and jams up against the lower firewall and wing mount former. The gear hasn't gone anywhere because the ply piece wont allow the LG plate to twist.
pedro, you can see my muffler earlier in this thread and my other mods. i taxi with full up elev (40 degrees) so not much problem with nosing over.
