I'm currently restoring an old 1/4 scale Cessna 140. Here's what I'm using for the control surfaces. This is in reply to my email to SIG:
"We do sell the crimped plastic in sheets that have a ridge spacing of 11/16".
They are available in two sheet sizes.

Well the fuselage is rough shaped and ready for final sanding. Now lets get the landing gear and filler blocks put on. Here is what she looks like to date. This has been a fun kit to build. I have enjoyed the ease of assembly. Also Steve, here is a look at the wing joiners.

Well, take a week of vacation and they expect you to work again.[&o][&o] I got the wings going on the building board now. The construction is pretty simple. Make sure you pay attention to the right and left stub wing spars. One thing that I have noticed about this kit so far is that it is simple construction and it builds realitive easy, I like it.

Well the wings went together rather quickly. After getting them together and planed down to basic shape, I decided to add a little more realism and added clearence lights to the wings. Also I noticed an article in RCM magazine by Al Kratz, he made a retractable landing light for a chipmunk. Well the Cessna 140 has the same type of light so I am going to add that also. Thanks Al
You need to pay close attention in the detail for the aluminm plug in on the wing as there is a right and left, recommend looking at root rib at the fuse and root rib on wing to ensure correct alignment. Will continue to apply final shaping and sanding.
I used plastic angle for the simulation of ridges in the metal sheeting that the full scale has on the flaps, alirons and tail feathers.
I think it look really good. I plan on using SIG Koverall and Stix-it for the wing covering and then Fiberglass the Fuse and tail feathers.
Bomberguy, I got with JSM and they helped out with the materials for the ribbing on FLP and AL. Thanks

I have the wings completed and sanded almost ready for covering. Clearance lights have been added and still working on the landing light. As soon as I get the lighting installed plan to work on the wing struts. I have started on the installation of the Q-35 gas engine; I am using Dubro vibration reducing mounts. Think they will work great. Here are a couple of pics. Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas . We got 18 inches of snow 2 days before Christmas which was great. We had a White Christmas!!!

Christmas has come and gone, time to get back to work. The Engine is mounted and the cowling is complete. Dpending on what engine you use will determine how much cutting you will have to do on the cowling. I used expoxy to glue the halves together and then worked on making the cowl match the full scale documentation that I am using. In order to get the halve to feather together I used some regular body bondo. It worked well and sanding down real smooth. I also used a piece of 1/4 aircraft ply to mount inside the cowling to secure to the fuse. Here are a couple of pictures of where I am. Got to get the wing Struts built, maybe next week. Everyone have a Happy New Year and I will send more information Next Year!!!!!!

Got the wing struts built, I did not like the way the instructions recommended securing the struts, so I used 4-40 allthread and tapped the ends of the struts. I then expoxied and treaded the all thread into the struts and used Great Planes Nylon strut fittings. I then measured and cut the struts to fit with a slight lift in each wing. I then taped the landing block to secure the fuselage end of the wing struts. I feel this will make the wings more secure as the struts are load bearing.

Here is a look at the Cessna 140 with both wings and one wing strut installed. Work is driving me crazy[&o][&o], seems like every time I start making progress its time to go on another bussiness trip. Won't get to work on here for another 2 weeks[][]. But when I get back will get moving again. Hope all are enjoying the building progress as much I am.

Wow, finally back home where I can get some work done. Fiished installing the Hitec 645 MG servo's for the flaps and alierons. Wanted them to operate much like the full scale so had to do some engerneering to make them work properly. Here is what I came up with, also completed the landing light. Now all that is needed is the final sanding and prep for the Sig Koverall. Were getting closer to painting. Can't wait for it to get warm and the flying field to open. Here are a few pictures of my progress. Enjoy.

Don't know if this is just too far into this thread to comment on an earlier thread on the Staffor Ercoupe. I own a 100% scale Ercoupe and recently go the Stafford kit. Its gonna be a while before I start it but I think the consturction issues relate to the fuselage as it is not assembled with a box like many of our kits are. Just looking at it it really seems to scream for a jig using a few aluminum rods in assembling it to keep it straight. An adaptation of the wing jigs with the parrelel rods would seem to work well. Once the bulkheads are straight and in line it should be pretty straight forward from there.

I saw a picture of your model in Model Airplane News. Very nice. I am building a Jack Stafford Models Cessna 140 now and have gotten to the point of preparing the landing gear and its mount. The landing gear supplied is too short for the scale wheel position. Did you use the supplied landing gear on your model and did you find it to be short? Will take your advice on the location of the elevator servos.

I remanufactured the landing gear, because it was to short and the wrong angle for the documentation I am using. I used flat alumuim and bent and aligned it to the photo documentation I am using using a litlle heat and long cheater bar. Hope this helps.

I thought I drop a note to let everyone know that I am still alive but not able to build on my kit as I am currently been deployed to the "sandbox". Kind of hard to get anything done over here. Not sure if anyone is monitoring this thread, but I have purchased the C-120/140 Stafford kit from a friend and R/C and Full-Scale C-140 owner in Kalamazoo, MI. I'll be finishing my C-140 off to match my friends C-140 (photo attached).
For power, I have a fairly new DLE-30 that I plan on using. I've also purchased a fiberglass cowl from Fiberglass Specialties. I'd really like to be able to emulate the corrugated aluminum on the rudder, elevators, flaps and ailerons, but the "Sig" material is no longer being made. I have seen some use strips of hardwood, balsa or even plastic. Wondering how well that works if you do anything other than fiberglassing the ship (such as Monokote or Solartex). Any thoughts out there?

CF-EQE (120) and CF-EQA (140) originaly belonged to Laurentide Aviation flying school that was owned by the Schoefield brothers in Cartierville QC. Small world ... Where did you learn to fly ?
