RE: Sig Hog Bipe Build
Just finished one of these that I have had sitting on the shelf for about 5 years now. I have owned 3 hogs. All where finished when I got them. I left the wing ends off and did not round the elevators. The rudder is 1" bigger. I did not sheet the tail feathers either. The servos are in the rear of the plane and its getting a Saito 100 that should be here today.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe Build
Maidened my Hog today. As others have said WOW! Couple of clicks and flys like it's on rails. The OS 91 cruised at about half throttle. Winds were about 10-15 and landing was smooth but it took a lot of runway to get stopped. The Hog has a tendancy to nose down on take off and landing when it slowed. I could control the takeoff with a little elevator but landing still poses a problem. Has anyone else had this problem and solved it.

Mine came in hot too, I have a 100 on mine. I went to a larger prop with lower pitch and it completely changed the plane and is a pleasure to land now, Not as fast but still moves right along.

My Hog has nosed over once, albeit corrected pretty quickly. On my second flight I just gave a bit too much throttle and shaved the prop a bit. I would imagine i have about 30+ flights on it now w/o any nose over problems. It was built per the plans and balanced per the plans. Running a Saito 100 w/ a 15x6 prop. I land w/ 2 clicks of throttle and it usually settles in pretty nicely.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe Build
I maidened my Hog tonight. Really nice. The Saito 100 was plenty of power, I spent most of the time at 1/3 throttle. I took off at full throttle, and was off in about 20 feet before I had a chance to get the tail up.
Flight characteristics are really nice. I ran it out of fuel and was a little surprised how quickly it loses altitude when dead stick, but no problem if you expect it. To answer a previous poster's question, I would say a Saito 90 or 82 would be plenty of power.

Well everyone was right the OS91 has more than enough power. I tried a 15x6 prop and could only get about 8600 RPM. Only needed about 1/3 throttle for cruising. I think I'll try a 14x6 for highter rpm and maybe it will slow down a little. This plane sure is fun to fly.

Hey Hooked,
Do you recall who had covered his pig in Yellow and
black? I saw it somewhere but can't find it again. I don't think it was RCKen's. But I wanted to study it a bit more.
Cheers,
Sidekick.

I'm building a hog also, i'm wondering if a saito 100 4 cycle is enough power, i really want to put a saito 4 stroker in, but i also want enough power to hang. does anyone have any idea?

RE: Sig Hog Bipe Build
I'm going to suggest something blasphemous. I have a Saito 100 on my Hog. I think it is clearly more power than needed and I suspect the Hog might handle better with a lighter engine. The Saito 82 might be about perfect. My Hog will stall and drop a wing violently if flown too slowly. I suspect that with a lighter build / lighter engine this tendency would be less pronounced.
Of course, if you want unlimited vertical you do need the bigger engine, but the Hog is not intended for 3D stuff anyhow. If you want to hover the Hog is not your answer.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe Build
Sad to report that my beloved Hog Bipe has expired []
It was almost one year to the day that it first took to the air.
It had being flying along nicely doing its Hog Bipe tricks, I had mostly been trying to learn how to hold a straight knife edge. But at the time of expiration it was in an inverted spin with everything functioning normally. With plenty of altitude left the sticks were returned to netural and the spin stopped. As normal, the plane was headed straight down with some power applied. I checked for wing orientation (I don't like to level out coming towards the runway) and orientation looked good. I pulled back on the elevator and had no elevator. Looked down at the TX to make sure I was not crazy, and looked back at the plane still headed straight down. Bounced the elevator a couple more times and had nothing it was at this point that mother earth claimed her prize.
Even though I had plenty of time to check the other controls it did not occur to me to try them, so I don't know if it was only the elevator or if it was all controls that were lost.
The plane is a total loss, fuselage broken in half, lower wing broken at the root rib (wing tips both pointed forward), top wing mount ripped out of the wing ... it will be easier to build a new one than to try to fix this one.
Impact was so hard it broke the MPI LED charger jack out of its mounting hole so checking to see if anything worked at the moment was impossible.
Today with everyting removed from the carnage the RX and servos work, battery reads 4.5v - 4.6v loaded for several minutes with a Hobbico volt meter.
So once again failure analysis reveals no smoking gun.

RE: Sig Hog Bipe Build
My condolences. I has similar happen two weeks ago but not as painful, Mine was a Laser ARF and the radio stopper responding completely and into the cornfield she went. Only thing on the airframe left was one wing half, every thing else was wrecked, Was only the second flight on it too. at least I got one good landing. Sorry to hear about the Hog, winter will be here soon enough so get the building table ready, I wouldn't feel complete without my Hog in the hanger.

Does anyone get unlimited vertical with an OS91 4 stroke. If so, what prop are you using?
