The pinking tapes really do add alot. I went ahead and used them on the "scale-ish" locations on the fuse as well. I've learned a lot with this cub build. I'm itching to get it done now to move onto my next build - 1/4 scale Monocoupe 90 by Ikon N'wst. I have the SR8 as well but its quite a complicated build and I'd like to do something a little less complicated before tackling it.

Still think you should build the SR8. Wait, was it an SR8 or SR9 that you have? Top Flite kit or....?

I have a Top Flite SR9 on the shelf that I bought at the same time as the Cub kit, I recently found a Ikon N'wst SR8 with a few other old Ikon N'wst kits so I bought that one too. I am planning to build the SR8 but I want to get a few more builds under my belt first. Looking over the plans its a pretty complex kit. I don't want to screw up a kit that hasn't been made in nearly 15 years.

Ah, that's right. We've already been over this anyway.

Now, when you put it that way, that you "don't wan to screw up a kit....", that kinda makes me rethink building the one I have. Ah heck! It'll be fun!

BTW, for all you kit builders, I re-kitted my Lanier Extra 3.25 today. Instead of rebuilding it, I sold it to a sucker... er.. uh... I mean a gentleman out at the field. for 50 bucks. It was kind of tricking landing that little thing anyway. I'll just buy an ARF to replace it and move on.

Okay Neddy, back to your build.

The rain held off today so I was able to get out and put down white primer on the fuse and top of the wings. This time it went much better. I thinned it more 1:1:1 this time and I discovered the pressure gauge I had between my hose and gun was inaccurate so I was using way to much pressure yesterday. Laying down the primer went very smoothly. I applied 1 mist coat and let it flash off the put down a wet coat and got great coverage. With paint on it I see that my sanding/prep and covering job isn't perfect but its ok with my for this build. Around here the standards are pretty high . This plane will be a frequent flyer and has been great learning experience for me so I know I can do a better job on the next one. I hope to get the other parts all primed and everything painted in the next couple weeks work schedule and weather allowing.

I was able to get the white primer sprayed on all the rest of the pieces that need it, control surfaces etc... I hope to get the color sprayed this weekend - then on to final assembly!

Looking real good there Neddy. Looking forward to the rest of the painting. When you're done with it show some pride and put it in your gallery for everyone to see.

I will. I'll have to figure out how the gallery/hangar thing works now with the upgrade though.

I got some Cub yellow layed down this morning. I got the fuse, cowl and control surfaces done. I still need to finish the wings, Robart gear parts and struts which I hope to do this afternoon or tomorrow. Coverage was great with 1 mist and 1 wet coat over the Klass Kote white primer. I used Klass Kote paint with Satin catalyst. Next time I'll probably just use White Solartex so I can skip the primer and save the time, effort and weight.

Oh yeah Neddy! That's looking real good now! Can't wait to see the detail go on.

That sounds like a good idea to use the white Solartex. I assume the white is more opaque than the Cub yellow, it show light through pretty darn good!

Painting is done! I got the wings, struts, and gear pieces done this afternoon. Windows/windshield are the only task left for this plane that might be a little difficult, we'll see soon.

Superb job Neddy. Your on the homestretch now.

Just from experience. When you put the landing gear back together take a dremel and clean out the holes where the main pins go. If you try and press the pins thru without prepping the hole you can press the paint off. I prepped both the mounting blocks and the holes thru the main gear.

You happy with the Klass Kote? It is some of the best paint I have used.
