Default Balsa USA North Star

Hi,
How is this as a plane and as a kit?
I am primarily interested in it as a seaplane.
Are Balsa USA's kits hard to build - it would be my second kit?
Thanks,
KW_Counter

Hard and easy are subjective terms.

The Northstar is not quite as bad as many "Builder's Kits", but if you're expecting something like a Sig or Great Planes kit, you'll be disappointed.

So no, it's not a "Hard" build, but it's not going to fall together either. But if you enjoy building, you'll find it a good build.

Relatively speaking, it is a hard kit to build well and even harder to get properly balanced without adding excessive weight. It is also hard to trim for all throttle settings as the thrust line is so high above the center of drag. With computer capability to mix elevator with throttle, this won't be the problem it is with non computer radios.

The North Star goes together pretty quick. The most important part is to get the fuselage straight and square. This seems to give most fellows problems. Not a place to use CA. Use Titebond II or something that will give you some time to get it aligned. Besure the build the weight into the nose that it calls for and you should have any problems balancing it. Mine was right on the money. For performance, it's a great seaplane. It is not and aerobatic performer although I have done outside loops with mine. Watch for the trim changes as the fuel tank empties. Have fun.
