Hi guys,
My TF P40E is tail heavy. Neaded 3 oz lead in tail. With lead its CG is 3/4" ahead to indicated in plans, but flies perfectly with OS 91FS.
Total weight 8 lbs (heavy balsa replaced with competition grade) Wonder why 120 engine is normally preferred? Should be much too much nose heavy???!!! All I heard so far, like tip stalls, nose tipping etc does not take place??!!.

If the CG is 3/4" ahead of the location indicated in the plans, the plane is considered to be nose heavy and would require weight to be added to the tail to get the CG to the indicated point. You say your plane flies perfectly. Most planes will fly more stable with the CG moved forward, and more responsive with the CG moved back.

My Feedback: (6)
I have a Saito 120 in mine and it still required a little weight in the tail but not much, but then again the finish adds a lot of weight to the tail. The tip stalls an such might happen at a high angle of attack but under normal flying I haven't seen any problems and it slows down well. I do have problems at high speed that I'm working on but cruise is nice.
