I got two more flights in on the coupe today. I have the balance at 2.5" and it seems to be pretty good. I worked on the main gear legs to get the tail a little higher. It''s starting to fly liked I hoped it would. A couple of more little adjustments and were ready for the summer.

Congrats,
If I remember right I balanced mine right on the rear gear legs where they fasten to the wing.

RE: JACK STAFFORD Models Aircoupe's
you guys are getting me excited about building my aircoupe. I searched, found and bought a kit. Then I read the instructions or lack there of and got a little hesitant. I''ve never sheeted wings before for one thing and the only large kits I have build were a Sig Hog Bipe and then an Astro Hog. They both had plenty of instructions/pictures, etc. I''m just worried about messing something up since you can''t buy this kit anymore. I guess I just need to start. Bassman, yours looks great. Keep up this thread, I like it.

If you built the Sig KITS and not the ARFs, you''ll have nothing but fun building the Ercoupe. Half the fun is looking at the plan and figuring out how that goes together. You''ll definitely get a great sense of accomplishmentn and pride when your Ercoupe takes to the air (and starts beating all the other planes in impromptu racing. )

no, not yet. I need to though. I was intimadated by reading the instructions or lack of and was thinking I maybe need to build another kit first since I haven't built in a year. Been busy too, not much flying or building. Need to get my priorities straight.

To all the Aircoupe Fans, I have been working on the Wing Fillet. I installed the base plywood and then used triangle stock to help start the transition between the fuse and the plywood base.

Looking good Ed,
That is the last tough thing to do to the Coupe, you will be ready for the maiden before you know it.

Anthony, thanks for the words of encouragement. I have added one coat of Evercoat Spot Putty & sanded. One or two more coats should do the trick.
I think the leading edge of the fillet needs to be brought in and rounded.

Ed that is exactly what I did on mine, I didn't bother trying to wrap it around the L/E to the bottom side. Didn't quite seem worth the trouble. Your fillets are looking good and you will enjoy the results once you paint your plane.
I would feather the edge of the fillet before going too far and harden the balsa with sanding sealer or something, just my .02 worth

Where the fillet meets the wing,
You can feather the edge down but you will need to harden the edge or it will ding up real easy.

RE: JACK STAFFORD Models Aircoupe's
Hi Anthony
I feel they came out good. Your notes, pictures and help sure made the process easier. I will send a picture today or tomorrow.
I have been working on it a little each day. I have been trimming the clear canopy. I had to back up (I guess all builders have done that at one time or another) and add 1/4" balsa to the framing that the clear canopy goes over around the cockpit area. My canopy was not coming down quite as far as needed on one section of the side. I did not want to trim to much off the front and rear of the canopy even thought I felt that might bring the clear canopy sides down. My reason is that this is the only canopy out there since Stafford is out of business. One shot is all I get.
Worked on the front cowl yesterday. Used CA with glass cloth inside the cowl for reinforcement.
Heading out to my garage to do a couple more hours work today on the Coupe.
I will be using an older OS 46SF with the Pitts Style Muffler. I think it will be a good combination.
