Tri Pacer kits

Hi
I think your best choice would be to get the plans and parts for a Hostetler tripacer, and get one of the many laser kit kits available out there.
If you want a more traditional kit Cambrian Models from the UK used to make a 1/4 scale kit in the 80's, they are discontinued now but some do pop up in Ebay.
hope it helps

Have flowen the real thing and the hostler. Very Simular! The hostler is a builders kit, you need to everything unless you can find a short kit or something from a keit cutting company. otherwise you get the plans and any other part (cowl, landing gear, wheel pants). there is no balso/lite-ply. The hostler tri-pacer i flew was about 10 years old, a little heavy and under powered, it still flew nice and smooth. good luck!

well I have done a search about tri pacer kits and read several forums regarding the mosquitobite planes and I am sorry i dont think that kit is for me. it seems as though there is some controversy regarding the weight of the plane, power requirements and customer service.

Sorry to hear your comment on the Mosquitobite Tri-Pacer. In viewing my kit, and the construction manual, it appears like a well designed product. I am not sure what you are saying about the weight, and power requirements for this model. Since most modelers are inclined to up the engine size when building a plane, it would seem that this model would fly very well depending on the wing loading. Is your comment about to high of wing loading due to the finished model being to heavy, or for some other reason? I believe I'Kron West(or a name something like this) had a 1/4 scale Tri-Pacer Kit. Would like to hear more from you about this model kit.

Rich,
you may want to read ALL of the following forum. There was some concern over the stated weight of the plane and the actual build out weight of the plane as well as some other issues.
I am of the beleif that if a supplier suggests a plane should weigh "x" number of pounds and ounces, that when complete it should come out within a few ounces of the stated weight if equally equipped.
Reading through this forum apprently there was some issues, so I have elected to look elsewhere for a tri pacer kit and will consider scratch building one if need be. I suggest you read this forum...unfortunately the moderator saw fit to lock it after some nasty comments began to fly!

The manufacturer has updated the website and now offers a lighter built version using balsa.
I think they are trying everything they can to please even those who bought the earlier versions.

Drdoom, my sentiments exactly! Easy as pie and sooo much character! I also wish they'd do a Cherokee 140 in fiberglass. How can they miss with one of the MOST popular GA aircraft in history?!

Tap into the planes that aren't available.
No one has a decent 1/5 Scale Cessna 172 Skyhawk, More Skyhawks built than any other GA plane in history.
also currently in production.

I wish SIG or Top-Flite would do a Perfect 1/5 Scale of the Tri Pacer.
It would be as easy as a Cub to Kit. It could also be built as a pacer.

Well if I read correctly in that other forum, a fellow ordered a kit (thinking it would be the balsa kit because that was all that was mentioned on the website) and when he recieved the kit, it turned out to be all plywood with no rhyme or reason behind it. he then proceeded to build it and it came out over 2 pounds heavier than stated on the website...gee I wonder why, plywood perhaps. The manufacturuer told him nothing to that effect according to the forum....so even though they offer a balsa kit now, I am still leary about persuing it!

In Mosquitobite's defense, the model in their video seems to fly very well, and a few builders really liked it. I almost bought one but I didn't like the cowl setup. I was waiting for the aftermarket fiberglass cowl. I'm looking forward to the updated kit.

So, when I heard it had gone to an all-ply airplane-- hoo-boy!! Talk about trying to fly a footlocker with wings! Sort of a deal-killer, know what I mean?
I trust Top Flite would do it right, and go with a more conventional construction method. (C'mONNN Top Flite!)

I put my name on the list at mosquitobite. Are there any other kit cutters offering full or short kits for the Tri Pacer? I have a full size with a 160 hp, great flying plane. Thought an RC to match would be fun.
Thanks,
Gary

In RC Report there is a continuous running ad for Calvins Classic Plans. (Vine Miller and Bud Atkinsons designs). Three sizes of Tri Pacers, 58 1/2"ws, 71 1/2" ws, and 88 1/2" ws. These are plans, not kits.
