Ya i though of that. Everything looks ok but it doesnt sit right. What I am gonna do is shape the tail balsa block and then see how the tail cone fits

jsmeed,

Let me know how your plane goes. Specifically the top skin over the stab. Does it curve nice from the stab to rudder like in the plans or is more a half curve if not straight. Heck let see some pics, no? Figure if we are at the same spot why not.

looking good. I see what i have done differently. I actually sanded down my aft stab the aerofoil slightly. I also did this to match my elevator thickness. Thanks for the pics. Keep em comin if you can and dont hesitate to ask me for some photos.

Thanks again.

The "wing" is removable. It's one piece...81" long.

Please don't take this wrong; but if you've never built a balsa kit before, this is the wrong one to start with. I had three kits under my belt before I started this one, and about 15 under my belt by the time I finished it. It is a complex build, and you need to know some fundamentals of working with balsa and reading plans to succeed with this particular kit.

I agree very strongly with the above statement, this is not a plane you would want to do as your first build. Try a Sig kit as a start, the 1/6 or 30 size cub will hone your building skills.

A 'goosy'? LOL (language barrier). The SIG kits are of excellent quality and fairly easy and cheap to build. The Somethin Extra (am building my third one right now) and Four Star both go together quickly and will teach you loads before tackling something like the Top Flite kits. Good luck on whatever you decide, and remember if you have questions to post them here on RCU.

'Goosy' = pinching somebody else's arse. I am also aware my real name is quite hilarious in your country.

Question for anyone that has completed or close to completing the Cessna 182. It took some talking and a little begging <G> to get the wife to buy me the Cessna Kit. This is far from my first kit or plane for that mater, but I have a question in regards to the simulated corragution that is added to the control surfaces. I have made a test run at applying the strips to wood and then covering but the results are far from pleasing. I am still some time away from this point but I like to plan at least 8 to 10 steps ahead, that way I can change my mind as many times as needed. Thanks and Merry Christmas to all

Glass those surfaces with 3/4 oz cloth, prime and paint. Its a lot easier than covering.....[:-][:-]

I think you glue the styrene angle stock over the covering. I sheeted my entire plane with styrene, then painted, so am not sure exsctly what the plans called for.
But it seems that a covering iron would deform the styrene strips.

Paul

Right you are, Paul. It says so right in the directions. I was unaware that you sheeted your entier plane in styrene. Please give some details.

Thanks for confirming what I thought, I did send this question to TF but some girl answered that it goes under covering. I tried a small section bu was no where close to being what it should be. Styrene is an option that I had completely forgotten about, worked with styrene for a long time.

Well, my sole reason for using styrene was to achieve a surface that reflected the deformation caused by the riveting process.
After careful evaluation of several local 1:1 182's, I replicated each panel's shape and rivet pattern in styrene, and then Med. CA'd them to the balsa sheeted model.
I do wish I had lightened the sheeting prior to the styrene skinning as the fully sheeted and skinned model came in at over 15 lbs. (including nearly a pound of lead in the cowl to balance). But the skin looks very realistic. In these couple of images the people are Photoshopped in, but you get a feel for the surface detail.
