Will be building a giant lanier stinger this winter. Do any of you guys know if
I should cut a inch or so of the front to have it balance with a g-62 up front.Built the 120 size last winter with a g26 pulling and it was a blast to say the least. Had at least 150 flights with not a hicup! Best plane ever had. Screams to the sky with a apc 17x4w. Did cut a inch and a half off the front for a perfect balance. Hope everyone had a fun year and thanks for any suggestions!KELLDOG p.s this is one BIG box of lumber and a great deal at a local hobby shop for 173 bucks!!!!!

I have the ARF version of it here with a DL50 on the front. I used TowerPro servos (heavy-ish) mounted in the tail (stock location for the ARF). It balances ok - JUST. I mounted the battery pack as far back as I could also.
I suspect that you will have more joy if you cut a little off the front if you're using a G62. I'm guessing you are kit building it?

If it is the "Giant" Stinger, with the 84" wingspan, you do not need to shorten the nose. The model is designed for a gasser.
I built one several years ago (about 7 or so), and powered it with a Sachs 4.2, then we put on a friends D&B 3.7 twin. Later used it to put some run time on his G-62, and my Saito 270. I then gave it to another flyer who has been flying it with a G-62 also. Looks like I will be getting it back so I will be putting the 4.2 back on it.
Do be sure and run fuse doublers from the firewall, the trailing edge of the wing. The L/E cutout in the fuse is a weak point, and the fuse will eventually break there.

good info guy's. Yes for 173 bucks it sure is not a arf for a bird this size. Am planning a large smoke tank near cg, so balancing for main build is a must. Rat fink sounds like ya got alot of sky miles on yours. Say's alot ! Do know about renforcement. Looking forward to getting snowed in for a spell to build!! Going to build light and strong. Now if I can only find better and bigger landing gear?? Thanks KELLDOG

Check out the B&B landing gear renforcement kit here: http://www.bennettbuilt.com/page7.htm
That's what I used on mine with 1/4 wire, and original gear. Still holding up fine.

Great link ratfink. Using it as a favorite. However am looking for larger landing gear for that not so perfect landing in the wind. Have heard that landing gear alone should spread at least 25% of wing length. 84"wing=21" gear. Looking for something around 25" for that heavy wing flopping back and forth on the ground. Like to drill lightening holes then attach wire for support. Have huge gear on a four star 120 with a thunder tiger 120-2 stroke. Really helps swing a 17x4w prop. When I was a kid built the model ratfink. You are giving me a great idea for the pilot of this ship. Also honoring "you "one of our forum buddies. By the way if I could give my opinion of engine's. That thundertiger 120 with a simple foremost check valve for tank pressure runs the same as the rest of them.FLAWLESS!!! One or two flips every time, super low idle with not one gurgle in midrange. Uses 10%, and takes the fourstar to the sky accelerating. Cheap to buy. Cannot figure out why they are not more popular. Guess they don't advertise in towers. Over seas they are" THE engine!!"
Thank's again!!!!!!!!! KELLDOG
