hello!
This will be my first build but I am not a newbie to flying or wood working. Would would be a good high wing plane with flaps as a fist time build? I would prefer a taildragger as well.
Thanks!

A Cub would be cool but no flaps.
Here are some other options:

I'm sure there are more out there too.

for a 40 size try RCM by Global. Super EZ build. Nose wheel but EZ to convert to tail dragger. agile enough to please even an experienced flyer. 60 size try the Right Flyer by SIG. Fairly EZ build w/semi semtrical wing. Good flyer. Cubs are great flyers but take offs and landings needs experience. Good luck

Do what Don says: "The Telemaster 40 is a high wing tail dragger with flaps."
Great plane and you can build it for a candy drop or bomb drop, too.

I have the sr telemaster. Can't say enough for it. Just plain love the plane. Bombays, oversized control surfaces and big 4 stroke power. No flaps. dont need them.

I have a Tele 40 kit on the shelf but already have too many underway so it will be awhile. I imagine that I'll load it up heavier than normal and use the flaps. I haven't had a plane with flaps since the mid 80s. That was a P51 that truly needed them. With retracts added and numerous repairs the beast had the glide ratio of a rock (:-)

I haven't built one personally, but everyone says the SIG LT-25 is an excellent first build. You didn't mention a size or power preference. The LT-25 is a great flyer and makes a great electric.

The Top Flite Cessna 182 Skylane Gold Ed Kit can be built with optional flaps, and it’s not a trainer like the Telemaster:

These kits can also be built with optional flaps, but they are low-wing:

This would be my choice. Perfect for your specifications.
This Top Flite Stinson Reliant SR-9 Giant can be built with optional flaps, is not a trainer and is a tail dragger.

Top Notch Kits http://www.topnotchkits.com/index_files/TN_Kits.htm offers a Cessna 195 kit. The kit does not have flaps (and the plane really doesn't need them), HOWEVER, flaps could be added with minimal effort.
Top Notch has a reputation for high quality kits that are light weight but strong.

Sigs Kadet LT 40 is a great build and an exceptional trainer. My stepson and I built it over the winter, with a little help from our friend Dave Cody is 9 years old and neither of us had any building experience prior to this. We (mainly me
) made some pretty big mistakes (can you say, the firewall was supposed to go in with the engine mount blind nuts at the top and the nose gear ones at the bottom), and I'm sure the thing is overgross (heavy, we got a little epoxy happy not to mention a second firewall glued atop the first) but with a OS46 it took off at 3/4 throttle. It looked HUGE when we finished it. Both of us, and our instructor (Dave again!), could not believe how "smoothly" it flew. We'd do it again in a heartbeat. Good luck!

Glad To Hear Your Building!!
My personal favorite would be the Goldberg Falcon 56. Great flying plane due to it's fully symetrical wing And stab. The build is almost fool proof since the wing is a constant cord and the leading and trailing edges are notched out for the rib placement. Thae stab is also built with the nitches for the ribs. Its a shoulder wing and strip aile. but with a thick airfoil it slows down nicely for landings, and you could do a lot of aerobatics with it. You could also add the flaps if you really must.
The Telemasters are nice too. A bit more of a build on the fuse, but I had a 40 size back in the 80s that would fly backwards in a 15-20 mph wind! That made it worth building the fussy light-weight fuse.
What ever you decide, let us know and start a thread. The guys in here love to share the knowledge that they have discovered over the years.

Well, Decided to build the GP Extra 300 .40 size. I don't know how it will turn out, but I just started the stab and it is looking perfect so far! it's really exciting just watching little thiings come together! You don't notice just how much goes into making a smale plane. It's pretty amazing..

The Sig Kadet Senior makes a nice high-wing taildragger. Flaps and ailerons could be added if desired. It's a fun kit to build and flies great with very little power.

You cheated. That's not a high wing and it doesn't have flaps

It looks like a neat plane though and I agree with you, it is neat to see them come together.
