Man The Dowel Idea is Great! Why did'nt I think of that!
I think mine will be plenty stong enough but your idea would be even better yet!
Have'nt made A lot of progress lately been savin the money to get the radio equipment I want, smoke system rest of the hardware and so on, I wanna buy it all at once so I can go on a marathon and get it up to covering, wich will probly be the end of the month so keep an eye out!
I agree with dragnbye, snow everywere get her down, she frames up fast! And it be nice to see a few more go togeather!

hey bipe i mocking up the stab here but got a ? does the thrust line runs though the stab? i know the plane has to be in "FLYING POSTION". i useing the robart incidence meter. should the fuse just be level to earh or what
thanks i am having a brain fart

I just used the top of the fuse side, Its a nice straight line that is paralel to the thrust line, and pretty much set it in a neutral or level position, to set up the tail. then macthed the wing to the stab. Then After I mounted the engine I checked everything again in relation to one another and ended up with 1 degree postive in the wing, 0 in the tail with 2 degrees downthrust in the engine, so mine worked out pretty well!

I'd recommend that you CG the Lanier CAP about 1/2" FORWARD of the wing tube for initial flights. The plans show the CG right in the middle of the tube-this is too far aft for most pilots (especially me!!!). Typically, this is hard to dothis plane tends to build tail heavy. You'll probably need to put the rudder servo under the canopy (pull/pull) and move your Rx battery all the way forward into the nose. Once you're used to the plane, you can move the CG aft in small increments. Use the "plan" throws for the elevator-you won't need much elevator throw for standard aerobatic flying. Have fun......WarpedWing.

warpedwing, thanks for the advice
a few people have warned me about the CG being to far aft. I do have the rudder sevo under the canopy with a pull-pull set up already. And I plan to use a smoke system so that should help give me some fuctional weight to get it to balance.
Thanks for the tip on the elevator thow too, I have to keep that in mind!

Dragnbye, have you got your tail mounted yet? I havn't made any progress in the last few days cuase this cold has kept me out of my shop.[:@][:@]

not yet but soon. i am not going to use any wood at the top of the fuse there to help with weight. what i was think of is useing a dowel to come back out of the stab into the rudder there is like a 1/2 gap between to two so i would make a block that the dowel runs though to hold everything down. did you think this will be strong ?? also thinking i just may use that crapy abs cover in the back it wont look as nice but it should be lighter then wood
#34
That should be plenty strong enough. Although the weigth your saving by not making a fillet block is minimal, to me it was worth the extra couple grams to look alot better, really its just bit more work!
I just got a few more things to tinker with and it will be time to start thinkin about covering!

yeah your right can you take a good pic up close that. becuse am thinking about in my head is a soild block of balsa shape to the air frame thats not what u r talking about right
#36
yes and no, I guled a peice of 1/4" sheet to the top of the stab with a small peice under it up front (becuase the stab is airfoiled) them a small block glued to the top of the fuse and side of the fin as a fillet, then sanded to shape. It only weighed about what a peice of 1/4" x 36" sheet balsa weighs and it looks pretty darn good if I say so myself, it just adds a bit of carving to the mixture!
I'll get some better pics and post up here tomorrow!

James, I still have a very old 232 kit built plane in Ca. with an 80 inch wing. The kit was made in Mexico way back when. Very old design and one of the kits that were called Snaps for one little reason. Great flying plane but I have to keep the landing speed up or it goes turttle on me in a hart beat. I will post up the photos you asked for soon as I can find them.

Here you go James. This is one of the only shots I have of the old CAP when I was doing a recover job and some minor changes and repairs. I don't have any of the plane when finished. A friend started flying it and really hated the nasty old bubble covering. The Extra is the new one that I am just starting to fly now. It has the G-62 up front and tugs it around quite well.

Hey gene! good lookin extra! I got a G45 for my cap, should pull it pretty nice too. Gotta question for ya, did you have to modify the throttle arm on the engine? and if so how did ya do it? I gotta idea of how I'm goin to do mine but any advice would be great!
It's good to have ya following my build thread again!
Drangnbye, looks good keep up the good work.
Tower just got an influx of revenue, I just orderd the monokote to cover this big bird! Gene you'll be glad to know that this one is goin to be yellow! I'll post my design idea as soon as Im tweakin it.

ARF???? The Bipeguy with an ARF??????[:-] Be still my beating hart!!! I got the G-62 in a trade and there was some carb damage due to it's crash?? I don't have the history of the engine but it runs great. It needed a new throttle shaft after I got finished fixing it with a hammer. [
] I had to install a spring starter on it but I love the thing, fires on the first flip now without hurting my arm or sholder. Most the time on the Zenoahs I do change the throttle arm with a plastic steering arm but for now I have the stock arm still on the carb. I would tell you here how I have it set up but I would get a hundred people telling me I can't do that!! Truth is I shouldn't have but I did and it's working.
Yellow will make it fly better too. Monocote??? Oh James. [&o]

Yeah, I know alot of people don't like monokote but I seem to have pretty good luck with it. and my suk turned out pretty good so I'll stick with it!
yep, I know I bought a barf, but I wanted and extra, to get wild with, but did'nt want to build 2 planes this winter not to metion if I tear it up there aint no sentimental attachment!
here is my trim Idea.

right now i am building the canpoy and i lost the parts (not the canpoy it self) so i am just making my own. i want to try to have a spring load dowel or rod so i really wont have to mess with bolts. i got a couple ideas i think iam going to sleep on it and see what i come up with
