My first ultra sport was in early 90's. Crashed after a year of flying it & have wanted a new one. So with the release of the kits again, I got a few of each. I've been reading the threads from minn-flyer & a few others & decided to get going on building one. I opened the kit saturday dec. 6th after supper, & heres where I'm at so far. I did do flaps, mechanical retracts, aileron servos out in the wing for each one, elevator & rudder servos in tail. I also did some lighting of the plane as minn-flyer did on one a while back by building up the tail surfaces & lighting hole in fuse sides. I will be using a MDS 68 for power due to it being just barely broke in & needing a new home. I hope to start covering tomorrow & while a completed plane is great to look at, I think a plane in "ready to cover" is a thing of beauty. So heres a few pics.

Nice job. Balanced elvators. Nice work on the engine cowl. I like see the airframe too. I would use some tranparent covering material if my workmanship wasn't so poor.

Thanks for the kind words. I had planned to start covering this morning, but the work area needed cleaned so bad that I run out of time before work. I did get the chance to fully assemble it with radio gear & all & I come up with 6lbs 7oz ready to cover. All things concidered, I dont think thats too bad. I figure 7.25-7.5lbs should be ready to fly.

I like the flush mount servos... Cleaner look than surface mount... Especially for the tail-feather servos....
Hmmm... I wonder if a fella could make a small facia to cover the servo area.. With just a small hole in it for the servo arm to exit through....
Me thinks I've got another idea...

Its a shame they didn't release the 120 sized..since everyone is basically building bigger, or much smaller ! Its hard to believe how much bigger the average gas model is nowadays...

I have just aquired another Ultra sport 1000. So now there's 2 in the rafters along with another 60 & a 40 size for later when I get bored.

I also have the US plans purchased from RCM, so I can build any of the Ultra Sport sizes I wanted to without breaking out a kit!!!

Ken, I just can not get as bored as you would be able to with that many stashed away. I missed out back in the 90's when they left the first time, & I wont let that happen again.

Well, between work, house cleaning & cleaning the snow off the driveway, its been difficult to find time for covering, but I did get some done lately. Here are the latest pic's. I hope to get more done tomorrow. Bill

Ok all I need now is a pilot to go with the covering job & install gear, canopy, balance & fly. I hope to fly it after christmas if the weather works out. I do not have ski's for this one. Bill

Well, the nicer weathers here & now I just dont seam to have much time for finishing the U.S. 60. I had gotton more done after Christmas, but things really got busy for in January & still have a few racing engines to finish before that season starts. As soon as I get my camara fired up, Ill post some current pictures.

Well, the maiden flight went very well. A tad bit windy, & cross wind at that, but all went well. The flaps really slow her down nicely for landing. Without flaps lands good too, but just faster. Forth flight had a retract problem of the ni-rod bending while trying to raise. It locked good while down, so that was the end for that day. Brought her home & repaired retracts & will take her out again today. She'll also go with me on vacation this week. LOVE these Ultra-sports.
