I just bought a P51 sport scale ARF plane CHEAP at a swap meet and one of the ailerons has a lot of slop in it like the balsa around the control wire has been wallowed out. The ailerons have already been glued, so I can't pull it apart and reglue. Any suggestions for taking the slop out of it? If I inject CA in there, will it hold? should I cut into the control surface and fill with epoxy? Its a really good looking plane and I hate to cut into it if I dont have to, but want it to be strong and safe as well. Any suggestions?

Mix up some 30 minute epoxy and see if you can load it up using a toothpick. You may need to open up the ends around the control rod to get enough deflection to work the toothpick enought to start filling up the well. Also work a small piece of waxpaper between the rod and the wing before you get started.

If you have to cut into the covering, do it from the bottom. Any work on the bottom is less likely to be seen.
I just did that on one of my planes.
1...Cut out a small area over where the hinge is (on the wing surface, not the aileron).
2...Next, re-position your hinge.
3...Tack a thin piece of balsa between the trailing edge of the wing and the leading edge of the aileron.
4...Cut a piece of balsa that fits into the hole over top of the re-positioned hinge.
5...Put epoxy into the hole taking care not to get any into the pin on the hinge.
6...Place the piece of balsa (from step 4) over the epoxy in the hole.
7...Even things up.
8...Wipe up the extra epoxy that oozzed out with a paper towel dampened with rubbing alcohol.
9...Don't soak the paper towel.
10.When dry, cut out that piece of balsa from step 3.
11.Cover that little spot with a coving that matched the plane.
12.You can get stick on covering in sheets at the hobby shop or online for a couple of dollars.....Maybe a buddy will give you a couple of square inches of your color if they have it.
