Default Wing incidence

What should the wing incidence be on a 4*-sixty?

I am building a Four Star 60 as we speak. Last night I mounted the wing.

The incidence should be set, provided you didn't alter the wing saddle. My wing fit without any real gaps....so I drilled away.

I will look at my plans, and I'll throw the wing on and check it with an incidence meter. My guess is it should be zero degrees.

With respect to what? The difference between the angle the stab makes with the horizontal in flight versus the angle the wing makes is usually what defines incidence. Then there is also the thrust angle. Really, you can take anything as a reference then relate all angles (thrust, wing, stab etc. ) to that reference. In real planes, this reference line is often called the "Water Line", a throwback to the drafting techniques used when ocean going ships were drafted. Now the angle at which the fuselage is desired to be relative to the horizon in flight is often the reference line. Now, a quick answer to your question, assuming a flat bottom wing, is that the wing should be at a more positive angle than the stab; how much, usually about 2.5 to 4 degrees.

It's a fully symmetrical wing. With the horizontal stabilizer parallel to the horizon, I'm pretty sure the incidence of the wing is zero degrees. I will double check the plans, as well as with an incidence meter. If it's anything other than zero...it'd be 1 or maybe 2. I cannot see 3-4.

Thanks, I am planning on doing the same today. The wing fits the saddle but there are some gaps, so I want to ensure I haven't placed the dowels incorrectly as to change the incidence somehow. I don't think this is the case, but I thought it would be better to check and fix anything that could be wrong now. I'll post the results later after I have checked it with an incidence meter.

Where are the gaps? If they're both up toward the leading edge...then you might have a little negative incidence. Remember you can only be off in one direction, unless you hacked away at the wing saddle.

If there aren't any real gaps from the trailing edge to the main spar...you're probably in good shape.

The plans call for +0.5 deg. and I measured +0.6 deg. so I am OK. I had originally looked in the manual for this information and didn't think about looking at the plans...

Thanks for the responses!

You got it...I looked at the plans last night...1/2 positive.

I haven't checked mine yet...but the saddle fit's nice so I'm not too worried about it. Sounds like you're good to move forward!
