Tower Hobbies Uproar 40 build
#1226
Hello Ricky !!! I'm building the Ol ' uproar kit before the cold weather set's in. I was glad I posted in your thread since all my old pictures and build threads were lost to the forum I posted in shut down. I'm not doing any mod's since I fly quads more than my planes. Just hate sseeing the kit on the shelf. Great seeing this thread is still alive !!! Looks like Tower Hobby isn't making the uproar any more. Go figure , the cost of $39.00 when I bought this kit will now buy us 5 sheets of 4x30 balsa sheets. lol.

Good to hear from you.
Yes, the cost of balsa by comparison to 15-20 years ago is insane. Along with almost everything else - like covering.
That's cool you are building that Uproar kit. What Motor/Battery combination will go into this one? Will it have some flames in the color scheme?

Value Hobby have been selling G-Force motors forever and I have them on my everyday [weekend] flyers with tremendous success. They stand behind their products and run their own spec/tests posting the results & suggestions. Just ordered their 4250 - 800kv and using a 4s lipo spinning a 13inch prop. I need to modify the nose to make a top mount battery compartment. The esc will be a Skywalker 80amp. I actually have 4 rolls of Monocoat, 2 red, 2 yellow. I must say the arf Uproar with 2 pc wings makes for a ton more space in the fuse to stuff a 4000mah pack.. Not building balsa anymore ,this is just laying around. I am loving building Quads and flying FPV. Hears the club field and me chasing a few warbirds around with a 7inch TBS Source v4 and SpeedyBee stack.

t's done !!! This Tower Hobbies Uproar kit was on my shelf for long before they discontinued making them. I also had the 2 rolls of Monokote covering.
We moved to the Jersey shore and my mancave garage is to small and no heat , but I had to get this done. It's my last balsa build. It's also the 4th Uproar I'v built.❤

I love building quads and ripping Fpv. I never soldered my fingers to the flight controllers like I do balsa with Ca glue.😄

This past Saturday we were out at the flying field and in the afternoon it got a little WINDY when the cold front moved through!
However it was relatively consistent wind.
One of my friends has a Flex Innovations - RV-8 60E set up with FPV. We did a flight with him chasing my Blue Uproar. It is hard to tell in the video, but our upwind ground speeds were surely less than 5MPH. Sometimes getting right close to ZERO. Actually did get the Uproar to back up a few times but not seen in this video.
I have attached a few teaser screen shots and here is the link to his video:

That's cool. You will be busy swapping engines for a short spell, I reckon.
I thought that Wankel on the uproar was a great set up, possible one of a kind.
That is a nice looking B-24

Here are a few updates for my old uproars. Mostly to share results of the servo choices I made back in the early days of these airplanes. Albeit, it is still useless reference material since most of the servo’s are no longer available.
In Sept of 2025, I replaced the old Hextronic MG16 aileron servos with NIB BbTurnigy 380MG. on the Purple Uproar.
The MG16’s had been jittery at center for a while and the top housing for these servos had hairline fracture cracks in them.
The MG16’s were installed on the Purple Uproar around June of 2011. So, they lasted, give or take 14 years with +/- 175 flights.
Worth noting, the average flight time, per my flight log is about 10-3/4 minutes per flight. Longest flights recorded are 21+ minutes.
As previously mentioned, all of that work turned out to be for NOT, because, on Oct 12th 2025 I was clowning around in the wind trying for near “0 MPH” ground speed landing and a crosswind gust got under it and I cartwheeled it - broke the tail off. Snapped it right off right behind the extra reinforcements I had added when originally built. The Red Uproar now has 255 flights. After 247 flights on this airplane, the 9 gram Hobby King throttle servo died. This one lasted almost 14 years with around 235 flights. The first throttle servo died pretty quick, but it had been repurposed from an old electric foamy plane.
In previous inspections I had noticed that the original aileron servos BbTurnigy 380MG had excessive play in the bushings and decided it a good idea to change them out while working on the plane. Replaced them, with the two (NIB) servos that I had put in the Purple Uproar right before wrecking it. After pulling one of the servos from the plane, the upper housing literally broke apart on the one end. See picture. Another possible crash averted… Plane has 8 more flights on it since then.

after removing the screws - while lifting it out of the pocket the top housing and mounting flange just simply fell apart.

This past Sunday I was putting in some great flights with the Blue Uproar. Was working on doing some flying that was out of my comfort zone - trying to expand my horizons
. Well, on the fourth flight.. I lost orientation and flew it right in the ground.. I did put it 3 good flights with the red one after that. The red is now the sole survivor..
Useless tidbit statistics on Blue :
total of 173 flights.
Maiden flight was July 5th 2010.
Did not fly for eight years 2015-2022.

YEP! it's broke
