Back to the building board.
Built the turtle decks, front and back.
Instaled the motor mount, tail wheel, landing gear
Tried the cowl and stab for size.

Found the time to do more work on the 230. Finished the front and back decks. Instaled the tail feathers. Worked on the pushrod for the elevators and did a lot of sanding!

Yes I am still around. I have not been able to work on the 230 these past couple of month due to a move. Now I still have to set up my shop at the new house and yes I now have a dedicated third car garage all for me, my little private hanger. I'll keep you posted of the shop progress, I guess an other month would do it.

Your plane is looking very good, I'm looking forward to seeing your finished plane.
A friend gave me a partially built 30% version of this plane that I'm working on.
What did you use to cut your ailerons from the wings?

Thank you, our family just moved to our new home and I am finishing setting up the new shop in the third car garage. I should be able to get back to the build in a couple of weeks.
I cut the ailerons with a #11 blade first on the basla sheeting and used a hack saw blade on the foam, worked pretty good and was a clean cut.

J,
Nice job on your build - I've been working on my 33%'er on and off for the past year as well (I'm the guy with the wing tube), just recently got back into it. Got the structural stuff done and ready to sheet the wings. Ihave a couple of questions for you. Idid the aileron servo pockets this afternoon - wanted to mount them on their sides, but the size of the cutout bothered me so I followed the print exactly, except moved them outboard to ~1/3 the length of the aileron (opposed to 1/4 on the print). I like the way you recessed the assembly (another thing Iwanted to do). Did you do any reinforcement of the pockets on the opposite side of the wing? I've got ~1/2"of foam under the aileron box - built for Hitec 654MG's - and just concerned it's a little thin.
Second question - how did you do the tunnel for the extension?Iset up a straight edge from the root to the center of the servo box and whipped out the old Weller soldering gun. Ran about 1"deep at the root and tapered up to 3/4"at the center of the box (where Ihad the side hole located) and basically left it raw cut, although Iburnt the 25"slot in less than 10 seconds, the foam is nicely fused and smooth. The width turned out to be about 5/32" so Iripped a piece of 1/4"thick balsa x 5/32"wide and glued it in the slot, flush with the top. Can actually drop the extension by itself from the root to the box. In your opinion, is this Ok or should Ihave run a tube?
Let me know when you get a chance......it's probably too late to change it now anyway.
Thanks, Eric

Eric,
As for the servo pocket, I just coated it with epoxy just to make sure the sheeting on the top would be stron enough. The tunel for the servo lead, simply heated a 4/40 rod, set a strait edge ruler on top of the wing and melted the foam slowly. hope this helps.
Post some picture, I would like to see your project.
