RE: Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300 Brotherhood.
I have a hole bunch of flights with a YS 120 and 50+ with a DLE 20 Gaser on the stock firewall. I just have triangel stock Balsa on the sides with a fiberglas stripp underneath using West System Epoxy and its holding up just fine, even with the Carb hole for the DLE in it.
Dont worry about it too much, but i did drill smal holes around the bolt holes and glued Bamboo toothpicks in them to make sure i dont squish the nuts with the washer to much into the firewall Wood.
Have a ball with it, its a damn good Airframe

Hey, i never saied there is something wrong with a YS 120 on the Ultimate or with these YS Engines itself, i replaced it because the 20/20 YS/DZ fuel price is a little on the hi side, i fly with the same performance of the YS 120 3 oz dry weight more but 14 oz less in the tank (makes it 11 oz lighter on take off) and burn 4-5 oz on a 7-9 min flight depneding how hard i push here. Was happy with that YS 120 but better economy and less CASTOR/SYNTHETIC MESS, less vibration and a hell of a better price for the Engine and unbeatible reliability, no extra E-Starter, Glow stick, roll of rags and on, that was the reason for my conversion. Also stated that the firewall is strong enough for some strong powerplants.
Thats all. I also have to state that i somehow like the picture with the Sharks mouth, think that ia b-n looking deal, actualy fits the caracter of the Ultimate.
Happy new year to all here

Hi All,
@ Peternj, love the scheme of your ultimate. I'm in the process of building an Ultimate. I assuming you used monokote or something similiar and painted the JAWS on the cowl?
Anyway I'm not sure what servos to use for 10-300 CG Ultimate. I was going to purchase a Spektrum DX7 with AR7000 receiver and DS821 servos. They're speced out at: (Torque: 72 oz/in @ 4.8v, 88 oz/in @ 6.0v Speed: .19 sec/60 deg @ 4.8V, .15 sec/60 deg @ 6.0V)
Does anyone know if these will suffice?

Johnrist,
Just for the record my current Ultimate bares the Bluehawk scheme. That said, I am in the process of building a second Ultimate with some mods I read about (re-enforced cabane mount, udated top wing mount, and detachable cabin) and that's the scheme I intend to hav on it. As for the covering I'm thinking silk and dope and painting it and detailing it with air brush.....
HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL!!!!

Got a tank through the DLE 20!! I used the 55's box and ignition set-up and was able to get a reliable idle and transition nicely. Haven't peaked the high needle as I like it to run a tad rich initially. My tach's batteries gave up the ghost in the low temp (0*C, 40% rH) but didn't work it too hard. Sounded sweet to my ears. It's the 55's mini-me!
I hoped to get another tank or two in today, but the honey do list has to get taken care of.

What are you guys using for hinges? I was informed today by my LHS, when I tried to order some more as I am three shy of completing the ailerons, that the flex point hinges that come with the kit are troublesome and not to use them. Trouble is I have already installed them in the rudder and elevator. Now how to remove them?

I used Robart mid size Pin Hinges on both of my Ultimates, i added a peace 5/16 in the Hinge section to asure enough material to support the Hinges. You could razor yours and put these Hinges nex to the old ones. In case you need some originals, i think i have some of them left over in my collected misselenius drawer

Good to know, thank-you! I have been meaning to ask you one other question. Did you move your gas tank or did it remain in the stock position?
I moved mine back so the tank sits in between the cabanes with the box sitting above the gear. I figured with the added weight of the ignition system (ignition box, wire and plug) up front I needed to move things around keeping in mind to put as much separation between the box and Rx. I'll also ditch the choke servo in favor of your set-up. I'll power it all with an IBEC and a 6.6v 1800mAh LiFe battery for the whole plane.
Sneak peek (the engine is still on the test bench awaiting its own ignition box when I get one back from Hobbico).

I have an ultimate 10-300 Carl Goldberg kit that I just started building after sitting around for 10 Years. I'm missing a bag of parts. Does anyone know where I can order K-53 SMALL PARTS BAG #3 Part #5829?

alfred, your thread is doing great! Lots of CG Ultimate lovers! I am enjoying reading it as it grows. While flipping through some old photos, I found a few from way back when I built mine, and was thrilled to see I completed the plane on October 10, 1992 per some notations on the photos. SO it's a little older than I thought. I am still flying this faithful old bipe, but with new servos and batteries. Also, I put in a new FASST receiver so I can program out some of the coupling while in KE, and I just did not want to get shot down because there are a couple other fellas at my field on Channel 33. Hope to get some new pics and a vid with a new camcorder I recently bought. Here are the old pics, scanned, so perhaps not very sharp:
I love the Ultimate so much that when searching for a 50cc size bipe a few months ago, I chose the Ultimate over other bipes. Here's my current state of progress on the AW Ultimate 20-300:
Keep all those Ultimates in great shape guys! Jon

a 1992 bipe made of balsa which flies nearly 20 years after, should be made by a great handcraft skilled proud owner!!!
By the way Happy new year to all in this forum, I had not the chance to get until now, I hope everybody have enjoyed the season and have a good project on your own bench!!!
