Default Carl Goldberg Ultimate 10-300S Scratch Build

This is where I belong. I'm currently in the process of building my first Ultimate Biplane from scratch. I've built, and flown four Goldberg Ultimates. I am obsessed with these planes. Since kits are getting harder, and harder to find, I'm using my last kit as a template for scratch building another one. I'm making templates of every die-cut part, and I'm making molds for the canopy, cowl, and wheel pants. I'll be bending my own landing gear, but would like to make some from carbon fiber one of these days. I've got quite a journey ahead of me, but I'm a patient man. My goal is to be able to reproduce the Goldberg Ultimate any time I need to. If anybody has any tips, or suggestions, I'm more than willing to read about them.

Sounds like a neat project! If you need a set of carbon gear to work from or get you through initially, Graph Tech RC sells a set (made for a 25% Aeroworks Edge 540) that matches the stock gear spread and angles perfectly. It's part #114. Someone else in this thread suggested it so I bought a set - and they are beautiful (and extremely light).

Jesus (jescardin) should be around shortly to officially welcome you and assign an official number - may take a day or two, as was the case for me. Great thread to subscribe to with lots of helpful info and tips.

Magnum 3145, I admire your desire to make copies of all die cut parts but I just finished a short kit of the Ultimate Bipe laser cut by Eddie at Action hobbies. It simple falls together and in order to avoid any conflict with Goldberg Eddie had to make some changes. The wing is mounted with tabs and metal supports and there are some other insignificant changes. You will still require a set of plans and some extra balsa to complete the build but it is beautiful build.

Raubold, Eddie will let you know the cost and if you have any questions with building you can give him a call

Hi all, what a read through this thread! Even if I skipped a few pages. I had a CG Ultimate back in the early 2000 and it was my favorite plane as a kid. Fast forward over a decade, I've sold the plane (after not in use for many years) and regretted it. For months, I've tried to bid on the Ultimate every time I see it on eBay - but always failed to win the bid. Recently, I came from Indonesia and found the kit in a local hobby shop. I was not leaving that shop without it. Came out a little expensive at around $300 - but there seems to be no other place I can find this kit. Hoping to put the OS Engine GT22 on this bird and will have it built early next year. I'm no builder - only ARFs. But hoping to start soon on smaller planes. Though, I'm not risking anything by building this bipe. Here is a photo of my old bipe taken a year ago.

Gordon, congrats for your past and future Ultimate biplanes. which sure will give you even more fun than the original one.

Of course you may count with this forum thread as well as with all the experts on the Ultimate who write and publish photos of theirs for any question or doubt you may get during the building.

Best Regards.

Sorry to just drop in but I need some help with a Goldberg kit. It is a 64" wing span Super Chipmunk, and I need the wing ribs patterns for it. Anyone that has them a copy would be appreciated greatly.

I recently started the build of mine - been in the loft for years. Anyway, the quality is terrible, poorly fitting parts etc. The T/E is cut for the ribs in the wrong place AND wrong angle! What did you guys do about this? Recut the T/E correctly? Thanks. I've got a Laser 155 going in mine.

Or you could simply recut them correctly and mark the slots you need to use so you don't use the wrong ones

I got my old Ultimate out again the other day. Started up easy and took off. It flew well, just a lil slower, and the old OS 120 Surpass sounded like a farm tractor! I think it needs new bearings. I will get that done this winter and have her up again soonish. Bearing replacement is one of those winter repair inside tasks when i am not able to fly. Enjoying reading of all the Ultimate builds and escapades. Keep it up guys! Jon

I can't say enough GOOD things about the C.G. Models! From Control line Shoe String to R/C Sportster! But, I'm Developing a VERY Simple Self,Rotating,Rotarywing Concept! See 1st. E Tests Lifting on #3 as a Motor Mount Failed! Vid. #4 should be Successful w/Stronger Mounts on OUTRUNNERS & Spare WINGS that I've put Typhoon INRUNNERS on! Have to get down to N.C. & Pick up 2nd. Alright, i have finally figured out my power system for my Goldberg ultimate, i am using a tacon 110 , exeed 100 amp hv powered by 8 cells . This system i tested in a hangar 9 corsair with a apc 18×10 electric prop , it drew 70 amps at wot at 8130 rpm and 1470 watts on the bench . In flight i could hear the rpms increase slightly. The corsair weighed just shy of 10 lbs and had complete unlimited vertical at 5/8 throttle using 2 5000 45c 4s gens ace batteries, flew for 15 minutes and still had 40% or more battery charge left and everthing came down cool . Unfortunately the hangar 9 has a weak wing and could not handle that power as the left wing ripped off on its 7th flight after take off in level flight at 3/4 throttle, lol . I will of coarse bring the pitch down for the ultimate and hopefully keep my wings , lol !

And btw the reason for my choice of ep this plane is flawless , and clean and i want to keep it that way ! It will be flown but more as a demonstration plane as i have a nitroplanes ultimate of the same size with a saito 150 that i can beat on since it is just an arf and not perfect.
