All you "bee-keepers" must have seen this - an 18 FOOT span, man-carrying Lazy Bee!
I found the pics and story at the bottom of the page [link=http://users.skynet.be/nestofdragons/weird_04.htm]here[/link]. |
RE: RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
where can i buy a lazy bee in the uk
|
RE: RE: RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Razzale;
That's a good question. Recently Global Hobby in California became the Sole distributor for Clancy Aviation (the maker of the Bee line) as such they have a number of stores in the western US from which they sell the Clancy products. For the rest of us (I'm in central Canada) we have to rely on the 800 phone number and emails to buy any of the Bees. As to what YOU will have to do in the UK I don't know. Try; http://clancyaviation.globalhobby.com Good Luck! bruce |
RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Hey everyone....do yourselves a favor.....if you want a Lazy Bee.....build the kit!!!!! It is much lighter....stronger and the dihedral varries with the ARF version. I have two wings from the ARFs....they are different! The kit version RULES!!!!!

here is MY Giant Lazy Bee, 81" ws, all foam board construction, weed eater engin. rigged to carry a std Lazy Bee and launch in flight. works too. sure someyhing different at the fly-ins. dick

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Wow!!!! That is an awesome Bee!!!! Thanks for sharing it with us. Could you clearify what you mean by " all foam board construction"? Does that mean that you made the ribs, side panels and anywhere else that would call out for 1/8 balsa you had substituted with foam board? Some detailed info would be awesome! Thanks again.

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
thats correct, about the only wood is the wing spars and they are YARD STICKS. also the plywood firewall. thats what Scratch Building is about. USE what you have available. remenber the old story--'the ironing board will Fly- with enough power.and it didn't come in a box." dick

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Hey....that is awesome! I am very impressed. I think it looks great! Do you have a video of it in the air????? I would like to see it fly. Thanks again.

sorry- no video. right now its just another ceiling hanger, too many New scratch builts in process, such as a 81" ws, Russian Zeno TB-1 bomber, carrying 2 small pursuits on its wing- , was a way trip for the pursuits, . twin electric drill motors. waiting for motors and electronics for for the pursuits. theres more in Scratch Building forunm. dick

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Dick....you do nice work. You know....i have not visited the scratch building forum too much. I have not felt worthy of it yet. I think I am almost there.
|
RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
try it. the info is applicable to all types of modeling. Not every one is the expert, that they think they are-- includes me too.. the Lazy Bee builds just like the big ones--- one stick at a time. might be a difference in the pocket book. scratch is a lot less expensive than some other methods. dick

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Sorry to jump in here a bit late guys but I am getting desperate. A good friend of mine gave me a partially assembled Stagger Bee a few weeks back. Apparently he had a bad alergic reaction to the CA glue and it has been sitting in his basement ever since. Anyway. the wings are completed and the fuselage is half way done. One major problem, he could not find the building plans or manual anywhere. I've been in touch with Hobby People and they tell me that this kit is no longer made and that they have tried to obtain a set of construction plans from Andy Clancy with no success. Anyone out there willing to part with a set of plans for the stagger bee for cash? I love flying my lazy bees and baby bee and think this one will also be a blast/

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Hey.....I'm here in Jersey.....I have the booklet copied in paper. I never had the original book. Send me a private message and we can work something out if you are interested. I also know a guy from Canada who is a Sagger Bee nut! He has some great modifications and stuff. PM me when you get a chance.

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Madflyer.....I sent you a PM. Sorry for the confusion!

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
I'm building my first Lazy Bee....actually, my first two! I got hold of an old kit and am simultaneously building a scratch one. I have the standard 40" wing version, but would like to also build the 48" wing with ailerons.
It's easy enough to see that if I add one more set of ribs, I'll add 10" and thus extend the wing. Also, I think all dihedral is removed. What I'd like to see is how the ailerons are added. If someone has the plans for the long wing, could you scan the portion that has the ailerons. It doesn't need to be scale....just a picture would be fine so I can see what's up. Has anyone made the modification to NOT use rubber bands to hold the wing? I think it would be cleaner to use hold down bolts, but I'd be curious to hear any success stories in that area. Thanks for all the ideas you may have!!! |
RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
wing hold down with bolts. add balsa blocks in wing, drill holes for 2 small, 1/8 dia plastic flat head screws in wing. mount the nuts in fuselage and away you go. if you feel safer make it 4. be sure to carry extra screws when you go flying. try it. dick
|
RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
forgot to add. don't forget the wing is now Ridgitly mounted to fuselage, you WILL DO do damage on bad landings, no give like rubber bands. dick
|
RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Don't waste your time with the ailerons. I built a 48 in. bee with them and the president of my flying club did it to his 40 in. bee. Makes no difference at all. Still need to use plenty of rudder to fly. We resorted to mixing the aileron and rudder functions on our radios. Have since built 2 more bees with rudder only.

RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Dave,Any chance you have another copy of the speedy bee plans?I've been out the hobby for a couple of years due to family illness but now I have the time to get back again.I had a Bee a couple of years ago and loved it. I'm more than willing to pay you.
Thanks Fred ORIGINAL: imsofaman I just got an email from Hobby People. They are real nice and they are the ones who are backing Andy Clancy. They are transfering the production machinery form die cut to laser cutting. They will have an ARF and a regular kit but it will be real nice with the laser cut parts!!!!! Here is what Mike had to say....... Actually, just got back from the factory that is doing both. They are in the works, but as with all things it seems, it is harder than we realized. This was one of the older designs and a lot of work had to be done to bring it up to date for laser cutting. We expect the ARF and kit first half of next year. Sorry, I wish the news was better, but this is simply a larger task than any of us realized. -Mike ---------- Original Message ---------------------------------- From: "Dave Surace" <> Reply-To: <> Date: Thu, 23 Oct 2003 22:23:52 -0400 >Ok guys....what's going on???? RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
best I can do is my enlarged plans of my 81" BEE, with a release mechanism, carrying a std Bee, it works like most of my scratch design and build models. dick
|
RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
Fcop.......I just sent you an email!;)
Dicknadine....how are things going for you? Any photos of that huge foam bee in the air yet???? how about some video? Please? Dave |
RE: Clancy Lazy Bee
morning. no in air photos, just inprocess and static. will dig them out, photo part of my computor not talking to me very good. when I say foam, I am talking FOAM BOARD, not blocks. also use yard sticks for wing spars. right now every thing is get prepared for Hurricane IVAN to hit us sometime this week, no modeling till its gone and the house damage repaired. my front yard is the Bay of St. Louis, on the Mississippi Sound. dick
