Robert, there's one on each side and it's the outside of thewing hardwood mounts.I tried to shape them so the would't be so noticeable.

One side of the plane complete! It took almost two cans to get the rivets I needed as shown in the pic. I have been at it since 5:30 this morning...http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...unge_smile.gif Determined to get it done. Here's what it looks like.

Steve I took a piece of 2-56 rod and ground one endconvex (the shape of the rivet). You can see a photo of it in previous posts. (See post #913)

That looks really good,
You can stamp me out about 500 4-40 rivets for my Waco:D

Do they seem to be adhering well with just a touch of the soldering iron?

Sure Anthony I'll get the minions working on that...LOL

The rivets seem to be sticking better with the method that I am using now which is holding down the head of the rivet with my left hand using the tip ofan X-acto knife and in the right hand holding the soldering iron. A couple have fallen off but not many. They can be reattatched easily. I just hope they don't blow off while I'm spraying!

Vincent it is looking great. Why can't you use a drop of clear coat to help glue them on?

Since you are spraying at low pressure I think you will be ok. I would maybe hold back a ways and spary a light mist coat and let that sit a few then give it a better base coat.

I will be making rivets for my Waco. I think I can take a Dremel tool and a soft abrasive and lightly hit the glue drops on the ailerons and put the new rivets in place.

So why not use the real thing??? You can get rivets in just about any size(1/32" dia increases) you want with any(just about) head shape you need and in aluminum or steel. I haven't applied them yet but I was going to make a template with approriate spacing and dremel the holes for the shank end.

My build is making steady progress although not as rapid as yours.
You may remember that I was modifying the wheel pants so they would become a solid construction since I was using
Robart Robostruts. Well they have turned out ok and have been sanded and prepped ready for colour coat. Still got to fit the fairings
on the tailfeathers and then apply colour finish coats to all surfaces. Once that's done then cockpit and windscreen details will be addressed.
I will post some photo's when I have finished the colour spraying. Might be a wee while though due to fine summer weather and
lots of flying being the order of the day.

paddcat1, the reason I didn't want to use them is because drilling as many holes so close together would weaken my air frame. To keep the structural integrity of the plane I thought it best to not drill any holes, besides when done I can say - " and you see those one million rivets they're all hand made" ! LOL

Just wanted to show a photo of the Ryan STA that I built. Certainly did not go into the detail that's called for in the plans but it does look good and flys great with the SuperTigre .90 for power.

Thanks for the compliment. It took about two months of steady work to get it together. There were two parts of the kit that I thought could be better; first is all of the plastic, especially the cowl and wheelpants. Today I would purchase the aftermarket fiberglass cowl and pants. The other was the flying wires, Sig privides thin aluminum strips. I imagine that they are scale replicas but I don't like to glue aluminum to anything so I used twisted wires.
I might mention that with subsequent kits I chose not to hinge the ailerons as shown in the plans. The plastic 'make your own' hinges eventually loosen,crack or break. So to simplify things I removed 1/16" from the top trailing edge and installed Robart hinges. Works great and no one at the field could see what I did. I did not build them with all the scale details but they still look good and fly great. Yes, I built three of these kits and have a fourth already 'in the bones'.

Holy cow two months! That was quick, especially for this model. Well done...

Good news! I should have the riveting completed tomorrow evening if everything goes as planned. http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...sn/biggrin.gif I got a huge section done this evening. This is something that you get quicker at as you go along. I will still have to apply rivets tothe cowl, but that's a project all by itself. I am waiting for my tapes and stitching to arrive so I can't finish the tail. Can you smell what I smell, yup that's paint...very soon.

Sounds like you have a rythem going on the rivets. It is really going to look good when the paint goes down.

What tape/stitching are you using? I have seen the glue w/pinking tape used, but I am wondering if you have something else in mind?

Dave, I'm using tapes from Gary at Pink-it http://www.pink-it.net/and for the rib stitching I'm using thishttp://www.personainternet.com/scaleribstitch/. I have used these products before and they are hard to beat and very user friendly.

Ok for the most partI think the rivets are done. There are still afew that need to be attatched around some of the cowling/fairing area once the taping is completed. Without better pictures of the plane that you are modeling it's hard to be sure if all the details such as rivets are accurate. I did the bestI could with the information that was available to me...
