Default Nexus

Hello All,
I just wanted to ask you guys/gals in here about the Nexus. I have flown a Nexus and 32VR, just some light stick time from a few friends. I bought the 32VR from my friend and got good at very basic hover, no more no less. I got scared and sold it back. It sparked my interest in Heli's. I have 16 years Airplane Experience, and that didn't help me a bit. My hat goes off to you all, your skills are priceless.
I have a few friends who fly hel's, one works for Heliproz here in Montana, and all I hear is how bad Kyosho is, i.e. Nexus Vs. Raptor, Shuttle, etc. What's the deal? My other friends loves the Nexus and VR line. I actually found the 32 VR easier to fly. Does the full flapping head have anything to do with stability? I have no Idea, My knowledge with heli's is very basic if that. LOL But, I am interested in the Nexus. Seems to be a good deal to start out, and parts are easy to come by. I just would like some light shed on the subject, I'm tired of hearing, " Don't get anything from Kyosho".

So to all you Heli Vets that like Kyosho, Let's hear it!

Thanks in advance for all your time.

The Nexus is outdated and you should consider the Caliber 30 instead. The Caliber 30 is a much better heli in all respects and HeliProz carries the parts. Ask the guys at Heliproz for there recommendation. With the problems Kyosho had with the parts being made outside of Japan the design flaws of the Nexus the VR line never caught on. With the new Caliber these appear to be solved.

Big sky.....

I am fond of kyosho for the fact of its simplicity and availability of parts. I startaed out with a concept 30 about 5 years ago. I unfortunately had no heli or plane experience!!!wow .....was that a mistake or what? After spending about 10 times the cost of a new concept I gave up in defeat!!The bird was never right after the first crash. I chalk this up to inexperienced building. I still have a little trouble with clutch glueing.Anyway,,,,,after a 2 or so year vacation,,,,,I decided to purchase a Nex 30.I got the ARF version from tower hobbies for $329 or $369. I installed the raido gear made a few linkage adjustments, and was hovering in abot 3 hours.I am not a 3-d flier, but I can hold my own when it comes to moving her around in forward flight, etc.I had a spill with her(nothing tremendous)And I let my seasoned rc plane flying brother try it in hover(she didn't make it then either!!!)In cliosing,I feel that the beginner can't go wrong with a Nexus 30,even if it's just til you earn your wings. I feel that you should learn every aspect of your bird in the "beginner"stage and you will become a successful heli-pilot.

Thanks .......Jim

I agree with the above posts ... there's nothing wrong with the Nexus itself...specially considering its a cheap heli. The thing with the Nexus is while being a good heli-trainer, it lacks of aerobatic abilities so once you can do circuits and very basic aerobatics, you'll prolly want to get a new heli.

I flew my Nexus less than 3 months as my learning curve was really steep and the WORST mistake I ever made was getting 46 VR to go up the aerobatics ladder. This heli is a plain rip-off ! It's announced as fully 3D capable but that just isn't true. I ended spending much more in my 46 VR to make it 3D capable than what I spent in my Fury Extreme !!!

Please tell us what makes the VR non aerobatic. The fully flapping head is one of the most responsive designs ever produced. My old Nexus deluxe had the same head and was very capable of any maneuver as long as the power was avaialble. I see some VR's at our field and they can do anything as long as the head speed keeps above 1900. The head design does have some limitations (read as boom strikes) but lacking 3D capability is not one of them.

The 46 VR is a very small / heavy heli. It uses very small blades and several parts are just too filmsy for 3D. I am not saying this heli doesn't 3D at all, but I do maintain it requires several upgrades to make it 3D capable.

The stock muffler is plain crap, the flybar paddles are way too heavy, the TR linkage (as well as other parts) are very sloppy and the cyclic responsiveness is fairly slow. The flapping head limits the amount of neg-pitch one can use on the blades and increases the posibility of boom-strike.

BTW, did I mention the VR doesn't have TR control for autorotations ? Also, the plastic clutch-bell is simply a no-go for high rpms as it will easily melt.

Again, with the correct upgrades this heli flies reasonably well, but as soon as you start buying zeal parts, you will in no time realize you could have bought a bigger and better heli than the VR.

This is very typical of all Kyosho heli's from the original Concept to the Concept SRX and through the Nexus and VR lines. No 30 class heli on the market has a driven tail stock, except the new Caliber. All 30 class heli's have had bad mufflers except for the new Caliber. The use of shorter blades on the previous Kyosho's is due to the wied spacing of the blade grips which is a result of the flapping head design. The actual rotor diameter is not that much small than any other 30 on the market. The VR line has larger parts than the SRX line it replaces and we all know a well set up SRX is still one of the best flying heli's in the 30 class. BTH I have a Rappy metal clutch bell that melted and I have never seen a Kyosho plastic one melt.

Default Started with a Nexus

I started with a used (2 year old)Nexus 30 with the OS 32sx engine...within the first 20 min of flight at the heli shop for setup the HeliMax Micro Gyro S.T.B. Put in a Rev 200 and Crashed it twice...two booms ,Tailfeathers, clutchl rotors,later..I put in the 401 w/digital servo and went to the Airtronics 6 channel radio to run the 401....was hovering for as long as I dared within minutes...since then I take it out once in a while (now its winter and usually below 30 deg)..but have a ball with it...I have purchased a used excell 60 with the composite blades...but saving that for when I can afford to crash it...lol
All in all...I loved the Nexus it did what it was supposed to do..taught me inexpensively to fly RC helicopters...
