Patrick, the aa jet is faster and needs more room to turn. Other than not climbing, what does your bipe do? Is it porpoising? You might try a little down elevator, this helps trim the plane in some cases. As for the mono mod it's great. I used stir sticks to resupport the wing, but that is not necessary. If you carefully peel the lower wings off, you can put them back on if you don't like the mono mod.

DJ, I can't get a death spiral if that is what you mean. It is true though that if you turn hard you might need to counter steer a little. The reverse is also true, If your in a climbing turn you can steer the other way fo a second and then return to your original turn. That often creates a stall turn with a flare out to regular flight.

Neuro, that could well have been built for spinmaster. On the tru website the have artwork for a stealth dominator that looks like that. I won't order one unless I'm sure it isn't the old non dominator. Tim

Okay....I know it's been said a hundred times already on this thread....But, I bought an AA last week after reading the first 200 posts on this thread and all I can say is WOW

I've been interested in RC planes for a long time and buying the AA gave me the incentive to looking into joining the local RC flying club here in St. John's Newfoundland. The guys at [link=http://www.sjrcf.com]the St. John's RC Flyers Club[/link] were really friendly....although I got a few chuckles when I walked in with my tiny AA in hand. Before arriving at the indoor gym I had only tried to fly my AA twice in wind conditions that were less than favorable which was less than gratifying. At the gym I was able to fly for 2mins before crashing the first time. After crashing I picked it up, made a few adjustments and was off again. After the 2nd charge I was able to fly the AA for the full charge without crashing. The guys at the club all took their turns asking about the AA and where I got it, how long had I been flying for, what other planes did I own.....etc, etc.....and they were all surprised buy the answers.

Thanks for recommending this plane

Welcome Aboard! Sir Squishy.

I have a question about the electronics in the tx. I seem to be having an intermitten turning problem, the motors don't turn on. I have a controller with fewer hours on it and will back check this. Both controllers have the turn without throttle mod. I expected the throttle to fail but not the turn controller. Tim

Ferndale, i had a TX that eventually lost throttle controll - it was very intermitent and barely worked. i took the TX apart and found that the copper contact plates that the sticks move across had started to wear out badly and were dirty. took the sticks apart to get the the little PCB that had the copper contacts and cleaned it up and after that it worked just fine. only took a few minutes, and you'll know if its worn out, there will be a groove in the copper.

It is porpoising, and it is just plain not climbing, espicially later in the flight... if i take off the lower wings, will the decreased wing area make it have a harder time climbing? im about to *carefully* rip them off...

Is the AA jet any faster than the biplane? is there anything else i should know about the jet?
I like the jet better than the bipes. They're easier to take appart and this
latest one (in the pic) is the best flyer out of the three jets and three bipes
I bought so far. So I'm going to fly this one a while before cutting into it.
The other questions Ferndale answered for you.

Could be too much up elevator or motor shafts are dirty. Usually tiny dirt strings
wrap themselves around the shafts and slow down the props.
Another thing you could try is adding weight to the nose.

Neurotex, you're right, that F117 looks like a perfect match for the AA. nice find, good luck on the maiden

For about $10 with post, I couldn't pass it up!

I've seen that one too and I believe it's the old Dominator type which is solid
soft foam. This F-117 from FlyZone is hard sheet 3mm foam.

"I seem to be having an intermitten turning problem,"

I have had various minor (challenging) glitches also. I have several planes and tx units. I normally use one fully moded tx and I have had dumb stuff like a plane I flew yesturday, now pulles horribly to the left and after farting around for 10 minutes it seems to straighten out.
I have had a plane while flying (two completely seperate areas 20 miles apart) suddenly pull to the right and then be fine. Its like someone is standing on the other side of the room / yard and messing with me.

I have run into this with other tx units (I have 3 moded units) its weird but I have to expect it.

It don't matter what channel, what plane.

ITs not often but just often enough to keep ya guard up. lol
Still love em.

well, i cut the tips of the lower wings off (well, really it was about 1/4. From the supports out) and attached them to the upper wing.. it was a really neatly done job, i used a *small* bead of shoo goo, and 2 strips of regular scotch tape per wing.. i also had too much up elevator... it flies 100 TIMES better.. now the question is, do it take off the rest of the lower wing, and make some supports for the upper wing?

Patrick, it sounds like you have built a aeroace with extended upper wing and winglets. I don't know if anyone has posted this mod before, in this form. You have a wing that looks like a modified w, and lower wing stubs, or winglets. Is this correct? It should climb quickly and handle well in little wind. Have you have extended the main wing along it's normal axis? Tim

hey guys i have x flying club too , already made some mod , diode , spring and 5 pence coin taped in the front , what im thinking now is making my own version using the guts from my plane , any chance that i can only use one motor to fly it then use the other motor connection to make a rudder control using the muscle wire ( less weight than actuator with magnet ) if so , how to do the mods? anybody tried this ?

thats correct... i dont know that my wings are extended as much as some planes, but it is. i did not take the lower wing completely off... i dont know if i should, im still considering it...yeah, its extended along its normal axis. i also like how it looks, with the lower wing shortened. Here are the exact mesurments: 1.6 cm off each side of the lower wing, and put on the top wing on each side, making the wingspan on the upper wing about 25.6 cm.

Yo!

After the success if the mono mod I thought I'd go the whole Hog (geddit) and do the extended winglets mod. Fixed the lower wings to the upper using v thin/ narrow control surface tape. I chamfered the ends a bit to get a straight line dihedral along teh whole length.

At lunchtime today I tried it out, with my ARS Tx. Flies like a bird! 2 Fields, 2 angry farmers and 1 ruined pair of shoes later I found it unscathed. This was in a breeze that was imperceptible at ground level but at c 10 ft height and more it couldn't penetrate even the tiniest breeze and SLOWLY moved backwards even when kept facing into wind. Inrease the power, up higher she goes, stronger breeze, a bit further away!

I'm going to keep this mod for indoor experiments this winter and revert to stubby mono for outdoors - until I gut it that is.

Cheers

Ayrton

PS Patrick I posted on the mono mod a page or so ago - well worth doing
PPS Tim is there a pic of your stir stick (what they?) mod here anywhere?

Ayrton, stir sticks are those little straws you get with coffee or a cocktail. Stir stick is the industry name. You might know them as swizzle sticks, although those are usually solid, or just plain coffee stirrers. I posted the pics a few pages ago, but I'll see if I can't find the pics and repost them.

Patrick, I'll see if I can find the w mod pics as well. I know I posted them a while back, but that could mean 10+ pages. Tim

OK, Patrick, here are the pics of what I call the w mod. This plane would climb like the jet and bank like a mono. I don't know if anyone else tried it, but I did 2 of them. This is the first. Also, just having winglets will get you great results. I think the optimal lenght I came to was 1.25" out from the airframe. The silk ribbon was to help the trim in wind. If you want pics of a winglet plane let me know and I'll see if I still have them. Tim

Here's a great site of some fine s&t models that could easily
be reduced and converted to AA mech. The frame work on
these models are fantastic and the detail is remarkable!

No info nerotx , he just built it and its covered with tissue paper, he said its lighter than the foam aer ace with a bigger wing spand, he wants to fly it indoors forst and then adjust it for outside flights.
