Ahaa, the motors and motor mounts are something Mega-byte sold/sells. I bought a bunch of motors and mounts thinking I would get really creative. This is my second attempt with them. On the first I think I transmitted to much heat in the wires and smoked a board. However, my findings on that motor set up are now questionable. It seems that I have worn out the throttle on my tx. Soldering to happen soon. Tim

ahaacobber,
Stop by my website and click the Contact Us and I'll discuss the motors by email.
My last few posts look like an ad board.
The forums arent the place for that.
Sorry guys......

Hi All, I just spent the last few hours working with tx's. The first thing I noticed is that the new tx's have a serious ground for the antenna, the second thing I noticed is that there is more solder on the board, and it is uniform. The third thing is that multichannel tx's are going to be harder to do. The spot where the a channel was is covered by solder. I just thought of a way around that. whatever!#@%**%#@. OH, here are pics of the new tx. Tim
I'm still annoyed with myself.

Hi all, I didn't mention why I was working on TX's. I realized that I only had a couple of speeds, not 6. I tested this by taking a known good(new) controller and flying a plane, then trying my older controller. I was missing 5 and 6, and 4 was cutting out a little. It is wonderful to fly with the throttle functioning properly. Any way I played with my cameras settings but could only get one good shot. Here it is. If anyone is interested I'll try harder with the camera, but I'll bet if you open up your 06 controller you have the same thing. I did do a turn without throttle mod so I can still fly. Just no 3 channel tx. Tim

armedzagi, if you listen closely you should be able to hear six speeds. The motors themselves have 16 speeds. There is a mod for that on aa toolbox. Tim

I am really interested in seeing the answer to this one. Ithink I have more than 3 speeds, but I am just guessing based on the differnt pitches of sound that I can get from the motors. It looks like ther are not enough contacts on the PC boad for the throttle to make 6 or 8 speeds, but I don't know a whole lot about that part of electronics.
If the newer TXs do have only 3 speeds, do the RXs have only 3 too? Or, could I use an old TX on a new plane and still get full throttle control?
By the way, I was happy to find the new Helix at Costco for $46 last night. Unfortunatley, my wife only let me get one and I have to wait for Christmas to try it out.

I believe the motors to be variable speed. Meaning the more power the
more speed.
Finished painting my latest plane last night and need to cut the prop slots
and install the AA.
Built with the flat fuse and two balsa sticks for wing support. All Hefty plates
except for 1.13mm tail fins, canard, & canopy.
Weight is 6.4 grams, 11" wingspan.
more speed.

Racerx, I can't access the aa tollbox again. Updating perhaps?
Ahaa, there are three settings on the throttle board, each setting has 2 positions, therefore 6 speeds. The 16 speed mod was done by a fellow in Germany that hooked the board to an ocilloscope. He found sixteen peaks, or speeds, that could have more to do with the electronics. I'm sure the motor was built as a true variable speed motor. If I didn't wreck my new controller trying to remove solder, I'll check it tonight. I'll also count wires.
The production number for the "new" controller is 061011SL1, the old numbers were not alpha numeric, interesting. I just checked an older plane, the number ended with the SL.

Thanks monstermaker, I'm now working on an X wing version.
So far the glider shows no problems. When it slows down to a stall it dips
and then quickly snaps back and rights itself, then glides to a landing.
Cruising it remains steady. Should make a good flying AA.
Blue Angel formation AA. Make 3 small foam jets and link them together
with cf rods. Install the TX in the first jet and the motors in the last two.

I just spent some time modding the new controller. I got the three channel switch to work. I thought it was all downhill from there. I went to solder in the p11 connection and the connection broke loose from the board. Has anyone modded out a new controlller? Tim

Hi Tim,
No, no maintence going on at the toolboxes. Perhaps it was a network issue? All the servers were just upgrade on Wednesday, so everyone should benefit from the performance increase
If you ever run into a situation where you cannot access a toolbox, try this if your using Internet Explorer: Go to Tools, Internet Options, and click on the "delete temporary files" button. Close the browser, and restart before attempting to access a toolbox. Sometimes if the network address changes, your PC or ISP buffers the old address by mistake.
Neurotex, nice new design! Also the "Blue Angels in Formation" looks interesting.

Tim almost forgot,
Regards the 06 Tx's, is the additional soldier the issue in creating a 3 channel Tx, or is it a design change?

Djstinger,
The Cloud Cruiser reminds me of the AirHog Skywinder! The only two differences are the Skywinder has a power boost, and elevator control. NiMh battery also. Flys nice once you trim it out, but not as long as an AA.......

Racerx, My problem was that they used twice as much solder on the bridge. I think I'll grab an old A controller and mod it out.
I counted the wires on the throttle pcb, same as the new controller. I went through two throttles, about 6 months, and hundreds of flights before I cut through the copper. That was less than 4 sets of batteries. Given the amount I spend with the plane in the air I would guess an average user will never see this problem. I probably went through at least 6 airplanes as well.

those are some sweet designs, neurotex, nice job on the coloring too, it fits the plane very well.
the blue angel formation plane is a cool idea, it would be interesting to see how it flew. its in the shape of a delta wing, but since their seperate, i wonder if it would need to be trimmed like a delta/fling wing, or if it will trim like a normal plane.
some time ago i had build an X-Wing plane, mine was far more simple than yours, just some balsa scraps really. free flight glides were pretty nice, but once powered it proved to be a major pain. it didnt help that i really had no idea what i was doing, and the electronics i had were too heavy for the size i built it. it sure looked cool though

Thanks for the info Tim. Did you ever try one of the RS conductive trace pens to attempt to repair the warn areas for a little more life out of the Tx?

Racerx, I have never heard of such an animal. I did think about either soldering a peice of wrapping wire to the contact, But that seemed a bit of overkill. I did not think that I would be spending this much time trying to fit out a new 3 channel TX. Tim

monster I found them at kmart in the past. TRU made some poor decisions and had to file for bankruptcy. Part of the reorganization was closing stores in smaller markets, and stores that were not very profitable. Tim
KB toys had them online for a while. Tim
