Darticus, the bipe flies in the smallest area.

3D, the pic of the plane with struts is the single stir stick mod. For a more stable airplane there is the double stir stick mod. The plane is much faster and can turn quicker in both mods. The mono mod without canards or stir sticks is a good way to meet your neighbors. Most of this is written up on the aeroace mods thread. I check this thread at least once a day, if you have a question please ask. For your edification, I am working on a lighted mono, with lipo port, right now. Have fun,

Tim

Drag is needed for lift.[link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Induced_drag]induced drag[/link]

3D, the single stir stick is "twitchier" My best one had a peice of shrink tube on the tail boom, that changed the cg just enough that the plane would go almost straight up out of a dive and do stall turns. Since the wing is only attached at the center, it allows more flex, and more "tricks" The double stir stick is much more stable and forgiving in flight. It will not turn as hard and fast, nor will it climb as fast as the double (especially the one with the tail boom tube shrink tubed). But it is much more predictable. I don't think one is better than the other, they both perform well, but fly different.

I think the most important mod is the turn w/o throttle mod. And if you think you are going to buy more planes, the three channels mod. If you are going to do both, do the three channels first then the turn w/o throttle.

The lighted plane has been retrofitted for the big charger, and the led's mounted differently( is that a real word?). Pic's later, Tim

3D, I'm using a triton jr. I open up the plane, wire a micro deans directly to the battery. I port the plug through the windshield. Your charger needs to be able to charge at only 100 mah. I'm using wrapping wire to keep the weight down. I'm getting ready to shoot pics of the lighted plane, I'll shoot a couple of the plane I just put a battery in as well. It will show how I set up the charge rig.

Speaking of batteries, I'm getting ready to order more batteries. If anyone wants some please let me know. Last time around I charged $4 each, this time I have to charge $5 because paypal is taking a chunk.

Tim

3D and anyone else interested, here are pics of the plane I'm working on with the charge port, and a pic of the lighted ace that I re-worked last night. Tim

Hi All, I just wanted to tell you all that I bought a Mini-XPV at TRU for $29.99 Today. It has a 160mha 3.7 lipo and NO wheels, flier only! I will post some pics soon. I hope this flies better than the MSL which would not stay aloft for more than 20 ft .

A little off topic but... I was gifted an Air Rage B2, the one with the ducted fans. Anyone have any experience with these? Know where there is a forum on them? I've already pulled the guts and they are sweet little fans with lots of thrust. (not measured of course, except by what they blew all around my workspace)

Trying to come up with a project plane to put them on/in. Too much power and weight for an AA

Do you have any pics of the guts?

For the plane just do a scratch build. Scrol through this thread and look at diffrent designs!

Hi Guys!

I haven't been around for a while, in fact I last dropped in when p160 was the latest! Good to see all the action since.

I'm attaching a picture of a fairly extreme mod I tried (or should it be on the mods thread?? d'oh!). I decided to lengthen and lighten the tail with a drinking straw, and while I was at it I used the whole straw ( about 7cm increased to about 25cm...) to see what would happen... what happened was, it was fantastically stable and flew straight very well, but it wouldn't turn in the length of our 4 -court gym! So it's back to slightly longer than normal, I'm gonna try c10cm next. The other mods are single wing, extended wingtips as per usual.

The other pic is of my 16 gm (1/2 oz) Lancaster built originally for X-Twin gear, but I cheated and put in Plantraco kit with actuators on elevator and ailerons. She flies, but needs serious trimming/ long grass/ totally calm dry weather to make progress. I'm sure she'd be just as good with Silverlit gear.

What is the name of the green and white plane with the black canopy, where did you get and does it fly better than the AA bipe with one wing removed?

Regards,

Brian

Hi Trroadster!

The Lancaster is a foam chuck glider, like the 50 pence WWII fighter ones from any toy shop, but comes with 4 little spinny props. I like the cartoony appearance and it glides very well - waiting for trimming flights now. There is a B17 available too but it has a rather psychedelic paint job...

Cheers

Good Morning All, Here are some pictures of the NEW MINI - XPV that I found while looking for a Sport Flier, I still can't find one anywhere!!

M-XPV weight is 26.2 grams, a little heavy but the box said that it will climb on 2nd throttle position, too bad there is only 3 steps. The motors still have quite a bit of power, they look like AH JET motors. Just waiting for the weather to break to try it out. On the bad side, The controller is small and awkward ( 49 Hz ). There was 3 different color variations ( red, blue and yellow ) maybe you fly 3 at one time tlike the AHAA.

skypilot, I have yet to find anything that flies as wellace mono mod with a stir stick mod. The green plane has no official air hogs name. The name in Europe is sport flyer. That is what I refer to it as, the acro-jet is the turbo fury. I have also seen it refered to as the kiwi. I'm having issues with mine, poor range and response to controls. Others love the plane.

I have researched the Air Hogs/Spin Master line and the green one you are talking about is called the Kiwi.
Has anyone heard anything about a release date for the XPV batteries?

Thank you for the replies.

Are you replacing the boom with a lighter tube on the AA mono conversion? I like the idea of the charging jack. I have had several of these planes that would not take a charge. It was always the ones that flew the best. I'll have to get cracking.

What do you use for the new boom material? The stir sticks are the added bracing?

Of my best planes, the first one was lost in a thermal before I did the transmitter mod, another was drawn to a spruce tree like a magnet and is still up there, and two others would not take a charge.

I'll check out the mod thread.
