Micro Builder,
How do you reverse the props to use them in a pulling configuration? Do you also reverse the motor direction? I was trying to think through this, to see if the engines need to be reversed, but it is just easier to ask.

Well guys I'm out of the Aero Ace game. My second one flew away a couple of days ago. These little things fly great and are fun to modify, but to my mind they need walls. I don't think I will buy any more until we find an indoor flying site. I'll keep watching though, so have fun guys. SirSid

NO!!!! Don't give up! Just fly in still moments, find an indoor place but outdoors is fine if there is no wind. Sometimes I have to wait days but it's worth it!

Larry,
i wasnt sure how to do it at first either, i tend to over complicate things sometimes
its pretty easy though, just take the prop from the right motor, flip it over and put it on the left motor. take the prop from the left motor, flip it over, and put it on the right motor. do a test try before tossing it for the first time, just to be sure they're spinning the right way. no soldering or motor wire swapping needed.
sirsid,
ah come on now, its only 30 bucks
when i first got mine they almost flew away too a few times, but i soon learned to fly at low altitude if it was windy. actually, even if it was calm outside, i rarely climbed higher than 20 or 30 feet, i found it much more entertaining to see how low i could fly than how high i could fly (there's nothin to crash into way up in the sky, but pleanty of things ground level to try to avoid hitting - beware of swimming pools!).
as you already know, you cant steer without throttle applied. but, i found a very effective way to turn when trying to come back down. with the throttle off, i push the right stick to the left or right, whichever way i want to turn, and hold it there - i then blip the throttle on for just a second or two, then back off. this makes it so the moment the props start spinning, you're already turning, and the throttle is on for such a short amount of time, you dont gain any altitude. i was able to get my single wing plane down form WAY high up by doing this, it works pretty well.

Has anybody tried landing gear and a ROG with their aeroace? I was considering using the landing gear from one of the balsa rubber band type gliders but was concerned about how to connect them to the plane, the added weight and what to do about the tail. Any other ideas?

gfl, you might have missed it when i posted this a few pages ago, but its on option for adding LG to the plane: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_33..._4/key_/tm.htm
the LG from the rubber powered planes are sometimes heavy, but, you may be able to cut the LG in half and get rid of some of its weight. the aeroace can handle a few extra grams when flying, if anything it'll balance out the plane and let it decend on the first throttle position. foam safe glue or two part epoxy would hold it to the foam just fine, packing tape might not hold it well enough. the rear of the plane probably wouldnt need anything, the tail can drag around without hurting the foam. if you're worried about it though, you could add a little tape to the tail to protect it a bit.
there's lots of differant ways to add LG, find any little car that has wheels, and use the axle and tires from it. double sided tape could hold a light set of LG easily enough i'd imagine. foam dinner plates, packing foam, balsa, there's lots of things you might have around the house that you could scrape together to make somethin.

micro builder - thank you. I removed the lower wing and attached it to the upper wing. A .32 wire and dubro 3/4" tires on the front, a small bent 45 degree .32 wire on the tail as a skid is what I finally decided on. Flew fine but I could not ROG. The plane spun in a circle to its left at full throttle. I'll try to figure out what is going wrong and correct it. The plane looks very similar to a HZ Scout in this configuration. With the extended wing alteration, has anybody experienced an inablility to steer. I'm finding it more difficult to get out of a spiral once it has started, usually to its right. Is there anyway to correct this?

no problem, gfl.
the plane is wanting to spin during a ROG because one wheel isnt spinning as freely as the other. so, instead of both wheels accellerating with the plane at the same speed, one has some friction, so it spins around and around. check to see the axle is straight on both wheels and that both wheels spin as freely as possible - that should help it out.
as for the spiral you get in a turn with the extended wings, its probably due to lack of dihedral. if you take the two wings you attatched, and place them at angles (pointing up, like \_____/ ) it should help the turns.

Hi J,
Not sure where in the UK you could get one but the F27 is a different animal altogether. The Aero Ace will help you learn control a little and some flight characteristics but it's only a 2 channel plane.
Get a Parkzone Slo-V to learn basic 3 channel flight. It's a great beginner's plane. There are others, I'm sure other folks will chime in too.
Have fun!

J,
not sure about where in UK either, but i'd just check Toys R Us. also, try sending an email to silverlit.com - they were the ones who made the original AeroAce (the X-Twins), and they might be able to get you one since they're over seas too.
as for the Stryker, i had flown only a couple other pretty cheap, hardly flying planes before i bought and flew the stryker. i had maybe an hours worth of flight experiance before i gave the Stryker its first toss in the air. that first toss resulted in a nose-in crash, breaking the nose in about 3 places, cracking one wing and pulling the motor (with foam attatched) and electronics right out of the plane. BUT, i got some 2 part epoxy and glued it all back together. i smashed that plane so many countless times, but all it took was 2 part epoxy to fix it. i broke 3 propellors, one servo, one motor, lost one battery but it kept on flying. i finally had to retire it after a low level inverted flight went bad and completley destroyed the fuse. but, i spent 20 bucks and got a new fuse and was back in the air the next day. this was with the first generation Strykers too.
the new F-27B has a much better body, RX, and other parts. its really not a beginers plane, cause it can be very fast. but, if you get one, wait till a nice calm day, give it 3/4 throttle and give it a good hard level toss and it should fly. the stryker weighs about one pound, but it can fly very slowly and is easy to control once your used to it. but, i would advise getting at least some stick time with another plane first, as Tommy said, the aeroace is completely differant than the Stryker, but some of the basic, need-to-know principles are still there to be learned. good luck

I got the aircraft succesfully up to 35 feet, then glided for about 3 minutes before the wind dropped and i made a soft landing on grass....But i have to say that the aircraft is quite temperamental on windy days......microbuilder, do u think the craft will climb faster if i removed the lower wing?

Just Read this whole thread and enjoyed reading up on the mods.
My 8 YO daughter wanted an R/C Plane for Christmas. I went to TRU last night and Got Two (one for me, becuase they look like fun.
) Ahter they were[link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2808795/mpage_7/key_/tm.htm] recommened by PigBoat_2 in the "The best flying $25 r/c plane you may ever own.. " Thread.[/link]I got a B, and a C. They had three more on the Shelf, One is an A.
I'll probably cgo back and get 1 or two more so I have a A, B, C set and I'll have a couple to mod..
I can't believe I have to wait until Christmas to open them... [:'(]
Btw: I found a few places that sell the AeroAce online [link=http://flyingtoystore.com/air-hogs-r-c-aero-ace.html]Flying Toys[/link], [link=http://classifieds.yahoo.com/detail.html?cid=merchandise-1132960664-869648&cc=merchandise]Yahoo Classified[/link],

so you're saying i should get a plane
thats faster than the aeroace and slower than the stryker to learn some more skills
before i eventually get a striker?
well thans for the help

I'd like to get an Aero Ace, but I want to buy more than one battery pack for the plane I get so I can get as close to continuous fly time as possible. If I can't charge one set of batteries while I'm flying, then I would have to wait for the entire charge period to fly the plane again. My six and nine year old sons would definitely get very bored waiting around for batteries to charge. Does anyone know if you can get an extra battery pack for this plane?

yeah i'll bet you can get another battery but with the aero ace, you really don't need another. it has a field charger where you plug the plane into the radio and it charges in a couple of minutes.
