A FAILURE RECORDED TODAY : have been thinking I need to add the HeatSink to the CX-2 so armed with tools and the Manual and y'alls explanations went for it. Failed miserably : I am not able to reach the semi-concealed motor-retaining screw half hidden by the bottom gear. Trying to I nicked it a bit because it seems to be made of VERY SOFT metal. then tried to remove the main gear wheels and cannot do that. either. Besides, wearing tri-focals and having to focus through a magnifying glass is awful, when I get things in focus the tool won't go in at that angle, etc etc.... so a HIGHER POWER seems to tell me "we need to keep these helis in """out of the box"""" original condition. I was afraid I had messed it up when re-assembling it, BUT the CX flies as good as it always has, right there in the workshop. RIIIIIICKKKK....leave it alone !!!!!

JUST NOW READ LOOKYJ POST : do you think that I can INSTALL the 6100 RX, USE the DX-7 system, add a SMALL GYRO and MODIFY THE CP YELLOW BIRD THIS WAY ????????? have you actually done it this way ?????

Rick,
I'm working on a hack for the original yellow CP 4in1 to use with the DX7, AR6100, and G90 gyro.
I'll let you know if I get it working.

Is the Microheli steel spindle noticeably stronger than stock? Reason is I just picked one up from LHS, got a few stock ones that have been "straightened" too many times.

oracus,
I think the mH steel spindle is stronger, however, I also have the complete CNC mH head. I see a huge difference between that and the stock set up.

Ok thanks
The stock spindles just bend way too easy. I'm glad I didn't waste the money on another stock one and got the Microheli. Now I just need to get a Main gear/shaft thats stronger and doesn't need straightened out of the package. I will most likely also get a Microheli MG.

the Microheli steel spindle IS stronger than stock. I have been using the same one for several months.

for a model that is LIGHT, has no AILERON defense and a small RUDDER, flying in 12mph wind is A VERY HIGH ACHIEVEMENT, I congratulate you....
REALLY, I do !
but we know that your fingers are nimble enough, since you are a HELI PILOT !!!! [sm=teeth_smile.gif]
good job
p.s. what ACTUALLY HAPPENED ? the battery fell out of the plane ? [sm=72_72.gif]

sweet crash! Love the success storys. Ya gotta keep on keepin on. And that was with the DX6 , right? I am gonna work on the blade tonite, going back to the CNC head on that and the Futaba, crystals got picked up this afternoon (both TX and RX) as I have hit a wall with the build and have resorted to the brown liquid so fondly referred to as mood dampener/happy juice....heh!
Painting the canopy on the build heli now, and will paint the horizontal fin as well.....just on the top side, I need the yellow underneath to keep orientation. So from above, it will be all blue and underneath the tail will still be yellow.
I am so lost on this gyro thing, I am at a standstill. I just can't seem to grasp the function or even figure out if its in HH or normal mode. I can't find any info on it like the finless bob's videos.... I need the TLB gryo 101 class.....heh!
Gonna PM Dave and see if he will give me some DX6 settings and see if that gets me closer to what I need. I just seriously have no idea on these radios, and need to possibly contact an instructor here.......and see if I can't get some eduamacation

Just warming up to the old plank days where I would fly in wind strong enough with my .40 to fly it backwards. Like riding a bike...I didn't forget how to do it...WELL. No stupid stuff though (loops/rolls), I had all I could do to keep it upright. My son said "you were all over that stick the whole time". I intentionally made the approach into the GAIL and cut the motor, had to dive it in and flare at the last second. Even I was a little impressed especially since I know I had no business being out there in the first place.
Thanks for the KUDOS!

I have 2 AR6000's for my DX6. Other than the collective problem...it's a fantastic radio system. I've got an ESC and a couple compatable servos inbound to convert the L2 over to the DX6 so both the heli and the L2 use the same radio.

So did you then throw the L2 against a wall? Stomp on it? Hit it with a hammer so you could rebuild it? You just took it home in one piece??? I'm so confused how does that work?
Congrats Crash, sounds like fun.
Finally got the Pro up and running tonight - and after about 1/2 of the battery I smacked it into a chair. Bwahahahahahahaa, I should be mad but I just had to laugh.
Made a special stop and bought over priced eflite woody syms so I would have a like new Pro - $19 with tax for about 5 minutes of flight time. Plus I'll bet the main shaft is gone too. No superskids on this one, though I did put a bead on the tail stand, so I was trying to 'pop it up' off of the carpet and got a little carried away. It jumped to the far corner of the room and turned around some when I dumb thumbed it and struck the leg of a wooden chair. Before I destroyed it, I thought it flew surprisingly well for not being completely trimmed out yet. It is much more controlable than the cp but not as jumpy as I expected. It just very much goes where you want it to go. I'll have to start over with flat bottom blades that I already have until I can get some more syms.

crash,
overall it sounds like your pretty happy with the DX6...
I feel the same about the DX7 and AR6100's, the DX7 even binds with the stock CX2 4in1. It's a great radio system. I'm not familiar with the planks, but I was thinking you probably can use the electronics for a CX2 in some type of park flyer...
barrick,
In Theory...I was able to hack my stock Blade CP for use with the DX7, AR6100, G90, with S75 servos. here's some pics of the build process so far...

Hi Folks,
I'm a newbie heli pilot with a bit of a story I thought I'd share. Back in October I purchased my very first heli... a Blade CP (and lots of spare parts). At this point I've had no flying experience, or RC experience ever! After getting it home, charging up the battery, reading through the manual, and getting everything adjusted the way it is supposed to be? I head out to the closest large parking lot I could think of. I power up the TX, plug in the battery, and find myself crashing it into the pavement within 10 seconds or so, I was headed back home for the initial repairs. Who thought that the heli would roll over and pull itself into the ground? I certainly didn't. Interestingly enough, it did manage to get about 10 feet off the ground and 20 feet away from me before that stunt.
Once repaired, I decided to take it a bit slower... I went to my front yard and thought that perhaps instead of trying to fly this thing around, I would go for a hover... nice and safe, or so I thought. I get everything powered up, the light goes green, the Blade bunny hops twice, and then explodes! Boom strike! Pieces everywhere. Hmm I thought... this isn't very fun... is getting stressful, and starting to cost a lot of money, and I'm not even doing anything yet. Well, back inside and repair it again.
By this time, I'm finished trying to fly this thing, and I get on the Internet and start doing some research.... Flight Simulators... now there is an idea! So I place the Blade CP on the work bench, and there it sits for a few weeks, while I wait for a simulator cable to arrive and start getting into the simulator (FMS). Wow, I really do suck.. I can't even fly this thing in the simulator... I don't think I'm ever going to get the Blade in the air, and moving in a way that I'm actually trying to get it to go.
I spend more time on the simulator and start to make progress. I also decided that learning on a less expensive heli would be a good idea as well, so I order a Walkera Dragonfly 22E. It's cheap, and is similar to the Blade... not the same quality, but at my level, and experience, crashing after 5 seconds and having to make repairs is cheaper on a 22E than the Blade. I also learn about RADDs, and start with that program in my basement. I eventually get to hover the heli... heart pounding, and I find myself not breathing I'm concentrating so hard!
Winter comes late (in terms of snow and cold) this year, so I was able to get out and get some practice with the 22E (crashing and repairing as I go)... starting to get the hang of this - not great, but learning, and getting air time, so it's progress. Well after much practice with the 22E a servo gives out on it, and that's the end of the 22E (until the new one arrives) it's beat and has more glue and thread holding it together than original parts. While I wait for the new "budget learner" to arrive, I find myself wanting to fly... the simulators just don't give me the same satisfaction, so I take out one of my Blade CPs (by now, I have 2 CPs, 1 CP-Pro, and an X400 - it seems I'm buying helis for when I move up, as I sure can't fly them very well, but it's coming).
After a couple weeks of pure crap spring weather (rain, snow, hail, high winds) today there is a break in the rain/hail, and wind for about 2 hours. I jump on the opportunity and head out to the soccer field to get in some air time. I drag the loving wife along to take some video (as this is getting to be a side hobby of flying). I get in the best flights I've ever had!! (videos on youtube, links below).
I'm just glad that I was able to find RCUniverse, and these forums. I'm sure if I hadn't found them I would have quit the hobby before I ever really got started. The amount of information, help, suggestions, and helpful people on here has made all the difference. I sure don't post a lot, but I read a tonne! So from one newbie to the rest of you, thank-you for all your posts and the information you so freely pass on to people like me.

I can't keep mine running long enough to be able to fly like that. It always breaks down. WHAT IS YOUR SECRET! Got another BAD tail motor, and I just replaced it FRIDAY.

You should and can be very proud of your flight. My biggest issue is being air worthy long enough to get a flight with my CP-Pro. The Parkzone Cub (AKA L2), flies whenever I'm ready. I had TX/battery issues when I bought it. The batteries would move and I'd loose the radio. Got that fixed by adjusting the contacts and installing Ni-Cad's with a re-charging plug off a Futaba...no more problems or dead batteries. I did LOVE your video...you fly like a pro...so fly the Pro.

It might just be the 4°C weather that I'm flying in. Be interesting to see how well the tail motor holds up in the summer.

Well...it was white knuckle flying at it's best, but it was soooooooo cool. Landed so nice, I didn't even get dirt on it this time.

Took my L2 out tonight and put it up in 12-18mph winds and it's rated for 5-7mph and guess what happened??? I landed it and took it back in the house the same way I took it out LESS a charged battery.
