Default New winter project: RC10GT big block conversions

I just picked up a couple partial RC10gt's that will be my next my RC winter project. They haven't come in the mail yet but they should be here in the next day or two hopefully. I got them from another RCU'er. I have order several parts for them on ebay. so far I have the Steel tranny gears from RRP and some mics. RPM parts. I bought a Losi Mach 427 motor for one of them and I'm not sure yet what will go in the second one maybe a hyper .21 or something similar. Here they are.

Can't wait to see what it will look like when you're done. I'm gathering parts for my own resto project. I'm doing an aluminum RC10GT BLUE TUB CHASSIS. She will be a shelf queen. It's going to be built in memory of my big bro and will see very little run time.

Here are a few items I have either ordered or have alreadycome in for the project.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I need to figure out what I am going to use for a motor mount for the Mach 427. I also want to get a set of Jaco foam tires to help put the power to the ground. gearing it is going to be a challenge too. I would like to get a metal spur the only metal spur that I know of for the RC10GT is RRP but I need something smaller than 65T. Integy makes a bunch of metal spurs for different cars that I will probably try to fabricate to fit properly.

here is a 34T gear that is made for a revo but I may be able to get it to fit on the GT.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMWJ1&P=7
and I would use this 22T CB to go with the spur. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXRJT6&P=7
That combo would give me really sick top end and should be managable on the lower end.

Well I finally got the 2 RC10gts in the mail today. almost 3 weeks after sending payment. I was begining to think I wouldn't get them and I had been screwed out of $100. but they finally got here and that's all that matters. they are in worse shape than I thought they would be from his description but this is a project and will just take a bit more work than I had planned. I am going to need to get tranny braces, the front tube braces and body mounts for both of them. I was told that they had the carbon fiber shock towers and they don't so I will get a set of those for one of them. I want to get a set of MIP CVD's for at least the one that will have the Mach in it. I will get some pics up in a day or two.

Thanks for the link. New era has some nice stuff but I think they are a bit over priced. For motor mount I think I am going to use a set of mounts from a Losi 8ight and drill out the holes in the chassis. Back in the summer I had another RC10gt that I put a LRP Z.28 Spec 3 in just to see how hard it would be to do and I used an extra engine mount I had for an HPI Savage and that worked pretty well but I think the Losi mounts will work a little better. I'm not going to use the Associated clutch clutch setup either as i feel it is too small for this much power. I will be using a 3 shoe aluminum clutch setup and a clutch bell from an hpi firestorm or maybe a Associated NTC3 if I can get it to fit properly.

I am going to start tearing down the cars today and seeing what all I am going to need for them. The under sides of both chassis' are badly scraped up so I am going to try and polish away the blue finish with my dremel and give it a nice shine on the bottom side. I will do that today as well if I can strand to be out in my cold garage that long!!

Here are a bunch of pics of everything. The bodys that came with them look like they are both from 1/8 MT's. I'm not sure what I am going to do with them, but I kind of like the '57 chevy truck body. I might keep it for one of these cars and make it fit.

Besides being all scratched up on the bottom they don't look to bad. The one I'm working on is not bad at all on the bottom but the rest of the car was shot to hell. Mis-matching A arms, engine seized, wheels not matching, etc, etc.

I have my work cut out.

I am goin g to try an dget most of the scratches out of the chassis by polishing the bottom side with my dremel. It won't get the deep ones out but it should help it look better. I will be bashing them any way. I may just get the one with the .15CV running the way it is and sell it as a RTR and use the money to for the the other one with the Mach 427. but it will need alot of little things to get it right.

I have been working on how I am going to fit the engine in there. I think I pretty much have it all figured out. I will be using a flywheel from an HPI savage and a 3 shoe aluminum clutch that I have laying in the garage. the clutch bell is an NTC3 24T for a single speed. I need to get something for a spur but for now I just have the old chewed up one that was on it to get an idea of where the engine will sit. the motor mounts are from a Losi 8ight. I had to turn the carb around and angle it for the throttle linkage (which I don't have yet) to line up. for the exhaust I had to cut the manifold from a Hellfirein half to make the 90 degree turn instead of 180 degrees the pipe will just miss the front wheel so I don't think I will have any trouble there. this exhaust will work much better than how I had it set up on my other GT with the LRP in it last summer. No holes have been drilled in the chassis yet, everything is just sitting there.

Here are some pics.

Here is the GT I converted last year with the LRP. Notice the bad exhaust!!LOL!

I mounted the RPM reciever box and moved the battery to the front of the car to help shift some of the weight forward. The hump pack fits perfectly between the front shocks. I am going to have an RPM wide front bumper so the battery will be protected from front impacts. Here are some new pics.

anybody know where I can find a set of carbon fiber shock towers? I found a couple rear towers on EBay but I can't find the front anywhere?

I found one on Ebay and bought it for $5.35 shipped!! they had it listed by the part number and not by the name so I wasn't able to find it by searching for shock tower. not a b ad price if I do say so myself!!

Here are a few pics of the one Im working on. I haven't really started yet just been aquiring parts for now. All that is left is the aluminum A arms, shock towers, bulk heads, and servo mounts. Also need new servos, remote and receiver, engine and muffler.

Default RE: New winter project: RC10GT big block conversions

here are some updated pics of the project. I finally had a chance to work on it a bit more yesterday and got it all put back together. I had it all stripped down and cleaned everything, installed the RRP tranny gears, RPM arms, RPM receiver box, new servo mounts, servos, carbon fiber front shock tower...

I also moved the battery and switch to the front for better weight distribution. the only problem is that the switch is a bit difficult to get to and the body will have to be off to get to it I think.

and now the engine is mounted up and ready to run I just need to get a new spur gear for it!!

it would of been easier for you to run a o.s. .21 maxx on there to be a direct bolt in, just did one on my gt2 and its stupid fast and has the same weigh of a .12 motor.   just my .02

A size .12 motor is a small block and an .21 is a big block. they both have different mounting specs. you may have installed a OS .18 or maybe a 21TM which is just a bored out .18 as they the same mounting specs of a .12. An OS .21 will not fit the stock motor mounts. lets see some pics of your GT2.

here are some specs on the mounting hole for small blocks compared to big blocks.

OS .12 TG
Distance between mounting holes same side: .43" (11mm)
Distance between mounting holes opposite side: 1.24" (31.4mm)

OS .18 CVR
Width between mounting holes same side: 0.4" (11mm)
Width between mounting holes opposite side: 1.2" (31.4mm)

OS .21VG
Distance Between Mounting Holes Same Side: 0.83" (21mm)
Distance Between Mounting Holes Opposite Side: 1.4" (37mm)

OS .21TM This one has the same mounting holes as a small block but it has the same power output as a an OS .18TZ at a claimed 1.8PS each but the TZ is almost half the price.
Distance between mounting hole centers same side: 0.43" (11mm)
Distance between mounting hole centers opposite side: 1.2" (31.4mm)

My last RC10GT build had an OS .18TZ in it so I wanted to go a different route. the Losi Mach 427 engine is in a whole other league compared to the .21 TM, .18TZ the power difference is unreal you really need to experience it to understand it.

I have another GT I am working on too and I will be dropping an .21 in it. I have a Ofna Hyper .21 I may drop in it but it won't have the same power the Mach 427. I also have a OS .21 Vspec and though about putting it in one of these trucks just for kicks and to see how it performs compared to the Mach.

installing the max .21 in my gt2 keeps the factory weight balance as well with the factory mount (you need to use the tmaxx 19-24t clutch bell and flywheel) and the motor is pretty kick ***, i have a vantage carbon fiber pipe, 24t clutch bell and a 54t spur, it stands on the wheelie bar to and over 60 mph, whomps on all my friends highly modified 3.3 and .21 jatos.

yeah the 427 is alot heavier than the stock mor so I just firmed up the suspension that side to compensate. I would like to see some video of you car and some pics. It sounds nice!

I just finished installing a new set of servos and fabricateing a new spur gear setup for the GT. I got just a standard hitec servo for the throttle and a futaba 3305 high torque servo for steering. the spur gear is a 44t gear that I think is for an old HPI RS4 I found it in a tool box that I got as part of a package deal a while back so I'm not sure exactly what it is for but I made it work. so now I am running a 44T spur with a 19T clutch bell this thing is going to fly!!!
