Any ideas how to get the aircraft to takeoff more scale like?
I have an OS.61 FX with a 10x5 three blade pusher prop...the letters on the prop are facing forward.(aircraft forward)
I have laterally balanced the aircraft and CG is where the instructions called for at 10.3 inches or 270 or so mm.
on the maiden flight the aircraft needed a lot of runway, I was using Full throttle, then shot up at a steep angle....got the airplane trimmed....and she flew ok..although with full throttle she wanted to climb, pretty good
second flight I reduced some of the aileron throw..take off was the same...roll rate on low was good
third flight I was ready for the steep takeoff angle and backed off the elevator so the angle wasn't as bad.
the approach is good the airplane shows nice slow flight handling...
what I'd like to see is the nose come off the ground then as the airspeed builds the airplane come off the runway..
oh I enlarged the elevator after the maiden flights to a total chord of 3 inches....and took a bit of the up thrust off the engine...what do ya think

What you are describing is typical of a problem with the angle of attack as the airplane sits on the ground.

As you run up for takeoff given the engine at the back, the nose is pushed down, further changing the AOA so that the plane wants to "stick" to the ground...

At some point it has built up SO much airspeed that it overcomes the downward force, and since it is already way over stall speed, and you are trying to pull the nose up, it takes off like a rocket.

Raise the height of the nose any way you can relative to the wing to give the plane a positive AOA when it is sitting on the ground. Make sure that the wings visibly sit with the leading edge higher than the trailing edge.

This will cure the problem.

yep....it's still a test bed..once we get the AOA straightened out the only draw back I see will be the tank size..once airborne she flies nice..although vertical you will stall the tail...no rudder or elevator..before the wings stall..first time that happened I was glad I had altitude.....stalling in level atitude is very gentle...

SUCCESS.....bought a new nose strut..as the factory supplied one was a bit soft...this allowed me to raise the nose strut to the point that the leading edge of the wing is at 6 inches off the ground while the trailing edge is at 5 3/8 inches from the ground....take off today was ok...the nose rotated..then the mains flew off.....

Excellent!

Congrats...

Yeah that AOA while on the ground is critical on these planes.
